Thank You for your thoughts on the Subject, Yes I am in the Army with the 10th MTN Div out of Fort Drum, NY. Most of the stuff you talked about I have in my E & E Kit. I like your ideas and will add a few of the items you suggested to me. Thank You!

RickJ, have a look at this site, too. http://www.sasskit.co.uk/products/rescueandsurvival/index.htm

Years ago I bought a load-carrying vest from these guys, before vests were popular, its kinda old-fashioned looking & its cotton but still perfectly servicable. Their equipment is very well-made, its good kit.

SASS have some great SERE/E&E kit, theres an Escape belt which might interest you & even Silk Escape maps which were (presumably!) issued to 22Regt operators. Interestingly enough they have escape maps of Beirut & Moscow, too.

Hope the site's of some interest/help?

Meds: Imodium is good, Modafinil to keep one awake, Piracetam for heights, Aspirin (if tolerated).

I plan to add some water purification tabs (MicroPur) will fit nice and flat in my Kit Continer, and maybe a Platypus Water Container and a Survival Bag, and some small First Aid Stuff like a few Bandaids and Meds.

Sgt. Art, what is the Spec Ops REcon Wrap and do you know where I could look at one? An on-line source, I mean. Barring that, could you provide a description? Sounds like an interesting bit of kit.

Rick, you hit right on the head. Just like the head gator or SAS Headover but thinner, lighter and more compack. Another sourse:

I've also seen the FS on Ebay.

Rick, I spent many summers at Ft. Drum when I was with the NJ National Guard.

I think many E&E kits completely disregard the two main, and most important aspects of it, which are -- past not getting caught of course -- keeping your core temperature at 98.6 and staying hydrated.

If it was me, in a mountain/desert environment, I'd go for :

- a poncho or a lightweight tarp (of course with suitable camo colors),
- a good wool stocking cap,
- something to store water in (small collapsible bladder, ziplocs, whatever),
- purification tablets (chlorine AND iodine),
- duct tape, and
- a good knife.

Add to that :

- a map of some sort
- a real compass that will allow a 1-2 degrees precision. Other than that the sun, moon and stars will do fine.

I'm a big fan of not flashing up headlamps or fires in E&E situations. Guess why. But if you're going over there right now you probably should already know how to walk in the dark ;)

Some E&E situations start with you being barefeet and wearing potato bags, so don't count on anything but your guts, wits, and balls.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I thouhgt it was the headcover thingy frm BQM, or similar, just wanted clarifiaction. I've seen them before and thought they'd be handy, although too large for most small kits.

If i might add one thing from experience. I think it was mentioned above, but I'll reiterate. Keep your E&E kit with you at all times. Not just in your assault pack, but on your body. Either in pockets or in a case of somekind. It's a bear to bail out of a Humvee that just hit and IED and not have anything with you.

Good Luck, Be safe and

Happy Hunting
