E tools/shovels

Bought a Glock Shovel.Initial impressions are-
Pros-light, compact, easily adjustable pivot. The case is functional but nothing to brag about.
Cons-the saw while being a decent length is pretty much useless. Cuts (barely) on the push stroke. Your average Swiss army knife saw is like a chainsaw compared to it. Seriously its one of the worst survival saws i've ever used. Even when i clamped a piece of wood into a workbench and tried using the saw two handed it still wasn't worth a d*mn. I'm just going to stick the saw in a drawer somewhere and rig up a survival kit to put in the fairly decent sized space (almost 9 inches) where the saw is supposed to go.

I have wanted a Glock since the 90's. Ended up with a Gerber tri-fold though. Great size and sturdy. Always in my camp gear.
I'll get a Glock some day

I have zero experience with the others but I will say that anyone who is looking at shovels/e-tools and doesn't at least test out the Cold Steel shovel, you're doing it wrong. It's such a versatile tool and inexpensive that you're doing yourself a disservice by not trying it.

I have a 30 year old folding pick and shovel with wooden handle that i've been using since i was in Cub Scouts. It still works great but its a heavy thing at 40-ish ounces. I bought the Glock because i just always wanted one and at 26 ounces its MUCH lighter. The saw was just an added bonus so i'm not that bummed thats its useless. I have lightweight/compact Bahcos and Fiskar saws that i can take instead. Now i'm just figuring out what kind of goodies i can stash in the handle, lol.

I can personally recommend the gerber e-tool. It'll shift a lot of dirt given adequate motivation... though given a choice I'd rather use a backhoe. :)

I would use a backhoe to plant daisies if given the choice, just to use a backhoe. :D

hey there was some "chinese military shovel" available it was not cheap but very multifunctional. i heard it rusts, but just from some strange guy who lied toooo much

The shovel in the videos I saw was awesome.

This Council combination shovel and pick would be awesome with a modified handle.

I have owned a couple of Cold Steels over the years. For my needs, I like the simplicity of no moving parts. They are also tried & true as well as cheap.

Three plus years since I commented on the CS shovel. It still lives in my truck box and gets used every overnight dive weekend to dig the fire pit. I still recommend it over anything else.

Well, then I have no choice but to try one out. Thanks for the input.;)

RevDevil, I think you'll be pleased with it. The Gerber folding eTool is similar in appearance to the issue GI tri-fold (at least when I was in!); but it's quite a bit better built. Make sure it's made in Finland, though.....I don't know if they changed that to China, like they did their camp axes (the Gator ones are Chinese).

The Gorge is a cute little shovel....it's tough, but I wouldn't want to dig a foxhole with it. I got it primarily for a backpacking shovel (a bite more of a shovel than the U-dig-it ones); I don't know that I'd say it's an eTool, though.

After reading through this whole thread I just ordered a Soviet Spetznaz CS Shovel. I'm headed out four wheeling in a few weeks to Silver Lk Sand Dunes in Michigan. This will come in real handy if/when I bury the Big Ford in the sand.:D

For that I just keep a couple Walmart shovels in my K5. You're gonna wish you had a full size shovel if and when.

Do you have one, UffDa? What do you think of it?

I was looking at Crovels a while ago....reviews were mixed, to be generous. I see that they've got a Gen 3, was just wondering if it was a good product. Is that the one you have?

No, I don't have one. I posted it as kind of a joke. Really, would you want to carry around a 5 1/2 pound shovel? Even their lightest shovel weighs 3 pounds. I suppose that they would be OK in a truck or the trunk of a car, but a full size shovel would probably be better for that type of use.

I have a Cold Steel SF shovel. It weighs less than 2 pounds and it does the job. For what they cost, you could buy one for every room in your house and be money ahead. :D
