Hey all,

I live in the Bay Area (CA) and would love to learn about the other side of the knife trade (having been a lifelong consumer)! Does anyone know of any master-apprentice programs or forges offering classes in my neck of the woods?

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could acquire the metalworking skills essential to knifemaking?

Thanks,

Jason

Not sure about down there but I know here in Montana a lot of the knife shows have knife making demonstrations, some even offer classes over a few days. Might be something to look into for your area.

Read through the posts on this forum, especially the WIP threads. Check out the stickies at the top of the page--there are many websites with step-by-step instructions on knife making. There are many experienced makers here who will answer questions and help you. I'm just getting started myself and this forum is a great resource.

Appreciate it, I've always learned best with a hands-on teacher as opposed to from reading instructions. I also don't really have a workshop... That said, excellent suggestion and I will pursue it!
