Is Eagle Industries a very popular option? I had a nice A-III Molle pack from them that I sold for some stupid reason (about a year ago) and am thinking I need a new pack! I was going to maybe get another......

What's the word on Eagle these days?

Thanks! I wanted to make sure they are still top-of-the-line gear before getting a bunch. I can buy the stuff at good prices but didn't want to if they have gone down in quality. I just dont hear too much about them any more.

Eagle is always great. The question is what's going to happen now that they and Blackhawk are now owned by ATK.

Blackchicken will probably continue to copy Eagle's designs.

depending on what you want it for, you might find a better pack than the A3. but i have one and it seems decent.

I plan on doing mostly day hikes with my wife. I probably could get by with a smaller pack but I am thinking I want to buy ONE pack and if I go with an A-III Molle, I could use it for 2-3 day trips if we decided to go that way or use it for Cold weather day trips with some warm layers of clothes inside etc.

Is the A-III too big for day trips? Maybe it's overkill for that use.

I still have my Eagle A-III and just found the original invoice from almost 10 years ago. Their gear is tough to beat. Buy without hesitation.

Eagle industries is outstanding!!!!! I've got the A-III pack, it's the large airborne.....

here's pics of it in this thread

hope this helps!!!!!

I had just talked to a rep at optics planet and ordered the frame sheet for my eagle pack, and he told me that they are not making any new frame sheets for a while because Eagle Industries has been given contract work by the Goverment so if that gives you an idea of how good a product they make the troops are using it, so if your get a pack, get the frame sheet also, cause it might be a while until you'll find one in stock......just my two cents.....

my own humble opinion, kifaru gear is better built and more comfortable.

www.kifaru.net

you can get some good deals on their forums sometimes and they still have some gen1 gear for 50% off

I own a Scout and MMR pack.... plus pockets to make either haul more stuff

I stand behind Eagle Industries 100%

My Becker Patrol Pack is no doubt my most coveted piece of kit.

I did two videos on it recently because of so many requests for it. Hope it helps. I know the prices can sometimes make your wallet close up. Have no fear though, the quality to price is assured!

++ I packed at least 40 to 45 pounds in my eagle pack for four days hiking, once I learned how to use it right, it was great.......the patrol pack is next on my list!!!!

IMHO, yes. it's a bit big for day hikes. but that all depends on what you're packing.

i prefer my Camelbak HAWG (mil-spec version) for day hikes. accessing the hydration bladder from the outside of the pack is also an advantage IMHO.

the A3 only has the optional plastic sheet frame, and some have said that's not really a very good system compared to an internal frame mountaineering type pack.

the Kelty Redwing gets many favorable comments, but i looked at them and felt the zippers were lighter than they should be.

I like Eagle, Tactical Tailor some smaller Maxpedition. I have had and still have one Kifaru- built like a tank. A smidge heavy and expensive but if I ever have to pack my possessions on my back for a long period- they will be in that bag.

I have their RC5 sheath and it's one of the best cordura products I've ever owned-both in practical design and in construction quality.

I love my A-III. on the big side for day trips, just right for light overnighters or day trips where you're carrying foul weather gear. It was pricey, but it's built like a tank, I'll be using this one for many years to come. The devil is in the details, and IMO Eagle nailed it.

Cool! I just ordered an A-III Molle pack in Multicam..... should be able to load it up and hide it from the wife, in plain site! ha ha ha

make sure to get that frame sheet, it helps out a lot!!!!! Internal frame pack for those who don't know....

I used a MOLLE Becker Patrol pack this summer and it was very comfortable and the MOLLE made it highly customizable...although I don't dig the ultra military look off all the unused MOLLE webbing. I'm always on the lookout for the "standard" Becker Patrol pack..

I haven't read any complaints on any Eagle stuff actually. You can go the Maxpedition route and save some money, but Eagle just has a more bombproof feeling to it.
