Earliest Buck 110??? Costliest Buck 110???

NEVER POLISH YOUR OLD 110's

Yes, mine was never polished, sharpened or carried, killer patina, sheath is nice and soft the way it was when new.

There are three early sheath's that i know of for the thiner early Buck 110's, i have them all, i will take a picture and post them asap, 110's rock!!!

James,
While I respect your opinion, whether or not one polishes the brass bolsters is a matter of choice. Mine are polished, but only with a soft cottom cloth. That's the thing about brass, all it takes is a little "elbow grease" and they look like new. If one likes the patina, just wait a few months and it will magically re-appear. I normally spend a few minutes on them every other week.

I didn't mean any disrespect Mike, and polishing by hand does the least damage to the knife, it would take a lot of polishing to round off the edges, but still, polishing your early Buck 110's is IMO devaluing the knife and 50 years of patina will never come back in a few months, it would take 50 more years to get back to were it would have been 50 years ago, sorry, ask any antique expert and he will tell you the same.

There's 2 schools of thought for collectors; polish it or don't. We'll have to see how a polished First Version, Variation 1, 110 fairs in the open market in a week or so ;)

It would take a sheet load more than being p-whipped for me to use a 110 First Version for money laundering a chainsaw.
Oh well, she must be worth it.
I'd just point the remote at her, click a button, tell her to shut up, get in the kitchen, and bake me a pie.

So brave when I know my wife doesn't read my posts LOL

There you go....and mine won't be hitting the open market until after I'm planted and then I really won't be in a position to care. So I'm going to keep on polishing! :o

Mike Kerins...

Your current avatar is quite distubing.
I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener.
But not a cubano...

Goose,
That what happens when you smoke one too many havanna specials! Would you believe me if I told you this gal was 27 years old? The earlier photo is what she looked like when she was 25.

I saw an etched go for 945 with box and papers. I wonder what the final bidder was willing to pay?

What do you guys know about the etching and the nail nicks?

I'm still waiting for my BCC lifetime membership and acess to their site.

This is an old thread brought back to life.

I've paid more then that for a 1st/1st almost new with the original box and all papers and sheath.

I remember reading on one of the older threads here that someone said they would pay over $2,000.00 for a brand new 1st/1st with sheath, papers and box. I would consider it also.

I have most of the early 110's but I didn't pay anywhere near the current prices for them. My collection of production 110's was completed many years ago.

One thing to remember is that "some" of those early 1st/1st knives came in a tan leather sheath. I have seen only 2 with that sheath, one is under lock and key in Chuck's office display. If I remember right, the other was offered for sale at a Blade show years ago for $600NEW IN BOX and everyone thought the seller was nuts. He was nuts....he should have had twice that on the knife!

I'm a little surprised that no one mentioned the one on E;bay 3 to 4 years ago that sold for 1,400.00 plus...Absolute pristine NIB with sheath and paperwork.I don't know if it was the VERY first version, but it caused quite a stir at the time..

I do recall one selling for that much, but I don't remember if it was the 1st 1st or etched.

How much would I pay for an early 110? I really don't know. I'd probably be a sucker for an etched version!

I dream sometimes of finding a old Buck display in some backwoods store that has a 1st version stuck in the back....

Heres something I tell my good friends when they think I'm crazy buying The first "Buck Knife".
Being Canadian, I started collecting Hockey cards when I was 7. Nowadays, a 1979 Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee Rookie Card in a professionally graded 7 near mint condition ( the condition price guides list their cards from that era) is currently worth about 700$ I bet there is at least 500 out there in this condition or better. Its something like 15 years newer and 10 times more available, yet is worth the about the same as a nice early 110.
I'd rather have the 110. (I guess thats why I sold my Gretzky Rookie :) )
Although Gretzky sure is a fine piece of Canadian history.
