Early Buck 102?

Good question Mike, there's a 1940's 112 on ebay too, item #6593661153. Old knives make me nervous if I don't know the dealer. Years ago I paid top dollar for an "original" Winchester, I proudly showed it to everyone I knew, then a collector pointed out it had been pieced together from 3 knives.

I'm really hoping that one or two of the more knowledgeable folks here provide me with some insight on this. Any takers?

Mike,
I have a question or two about this knife that I raised with Joe Houser. He will take a look at it. He has forgotten more about the pre-factory production Bucks than I know!!

Larry,
I really appreciate your effort. One can't be too careful when relying on ebay for knives. These olds ones aren't seen that often and I'm not willing to put out good money unless I have some idea as to what I'm looking at. I'm curious to hear what Joe has to say.

That's odd...someone with the eBay username "michaelkerins" has already bid on it...  :p

All right you guys.... Give me some slack. It's just a book marker!! That way I'll remember to keep checking it. :) Now if I put in a $500 bid, you'd have a valid point (pardon the pun) :foot:

That's cool. But here's a noobie eBayer question: why do they have the same bid amount for two different days??? [for you]...

The bid didn't increase...why show it again the next day???

Hey darryl...Let's push the bid up until it hits the reserve...then Mike can get it... :D

...You go first... :p

I increased my bid but it was still below the reserve amount

If you push up the bid, YOU may just end buying yourself a new knife!  :D

:D ...LOL...I think I would end up with a fixed blade which just would'nt fit in my drawer...To say nuthin' of the fact that Mike's been werkin' on this knife fer a bit now and might find a way to pack my knives with pumice in the pivots...

I hardly ever bid in an auction with a reserve. As often as not you never catch up to the guys opinion about the item he is selling is worth, a big waste of time. Still, if it is a Buck it’s an old one. Good luck Mike.

Huh...I hadn't thought of that...maybe a counterfeit??? Take a newer similar Buck, and grind/buff it to look *something* like a real old Hoyt Buck knife, and sell it for a profit...

Who would know? Mike is smart to try and get confirmation from Joe or anyone at Buck who might know how to spot a "ringer"...

OK...but why didn't the amount change to show your new bid??? I've bid on stuff w/reserve, and the amount always increased incrementally...and the bid history showed it...

Bids are only increased in increments regardless of a maximum bid placed. If you increase the maximum you're willing to bid, it doesn't change the current bid unless a new bidder comes in and places a bid. If the new bidder's maximum bid is less than yours, the new bid will be one increment above their maximum bid.
