Early Buck 102?

Well, I got blind sided by a last minute bid! But...that's ok, because I bid the limit of what my limited budget could stand. I guess my pockets just aren't deep enough. Pity, it was a nice knife. :o Oh well....back to 110's, now where was I? :D :D

OH NO!!! Mike got skunked!!! By 16 seconds and $5... :(
Look at it on the bright side! I now have $300 burning a hole in my pocket yearning to be spent on 110's waiting out there somewhere! :D  Oops! I better minimize the screen before my wife sees this!

But who knows how much he really bid. My only disappointment is that I didn't really drive the price up higher. :D :D

The book listed the value for a "group five" knife at $500 which assumes really good condition which I think this one was.

The guy who took the 102 has spent almost $6000 since late October. He seems to be the last bidder each time...Good "sniping program"...

No...DarrylS is right...the guy used a sniping program to get in the last bid...do a Google for "eBay sniping program" and look at all the @#$%^ sniping programs/sites there are!!!

One of my German buddies said c't had a comparison of auction sniping programs, and that some of the best were freeware...I'm trying to get a copy of the magazine article... :grumpy:

 ...I always like to see how fast my 2 fingers can hit the keys and if I hit the right letters when I put in a late bid...It's always an adventure for me...Sometimes I even get all the letters right...LMAO... :D :D ...P.S. I hate "sniping programs"...they're unAmerican...

Call me old fashioned but I put in a bid that is my absolute high offer and if some wing nut wants to pay more then let him dish out the money. I've done that and it has proven to be successful more times than not and the "three dot" 110 is a good example. I wasn't even home when the bidding ended and I won! :D :D

Mike,

This wing nut was waiting to do just that but we had a snow storm hit us and it took out our internet service. :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: Just for the night of course, it was all back up and running the next day.
I believe the knife was worth more than it went for so congrats to the winner, just wish it was you or me that won it! Rats!
Why isnt there an icon for "crying my eyes out" ???
Oh well, next time. :D

Well, I got sniped today on a 112 auction...I was at work, the auction ended at noon, I put my bid in at 7:00am, the winner submitted his bid 6 seconds before the auction ended, and won it over me by one dollar...only 3 bids, two of them his...(first & last) :(

Definately a sniping program... :grumpy:

I'm going to try one myself on a 110 tomorrow...see how well it works...

But I agree with Mike: it's the bid ceiling that determines who wins; the sniping programs just eliminate the hysterical frenzied last-minute bidding...I can usually justify an extra $5 or even $10...but with ~10 seconds left, on a dial-up, I don't stand a chance... :(

I suppose I may as well go up to Wal-Mart and see if those six 110's in the cans are still there...

Joe, I absolutely agree! After the auction I received my copy of Blade's Knives and they gave a value of $500 for the Group five knives. It's just that I have to limit the amount of money I can dedicate to this hobby. :( The winner got a great knife. I hope I get the chance to bid on a similar knife in the future. Oh, and if I happen to lose, I wouldn't mind losing out to you. I'd at least know it had a good home! :D The "wing nut" comment was actually referring to other auctions where folks end up bidding far greater that an item is worth. In this one that was truly not the case.

   ...The "weather" is gettin' weird isn't it??...I'm bidding on an old 2 dot 110. I'm starting to feel that there are evil powers at work that are preventing me from ever owning a decent 2 dot. I fully expect to get "sniped" tomorrow myself... :grumpy: :barf:

Trax,
I honestly try to put up the highest amount of money I'm willing to spend on a given knife. In many cases it may not be enough. If I do lose, it is no big deal because I know it went for more than I was willing to part with. As I mentioned to Joe, sometimes it comes down to budget rather than the actual value of the knife. This close after Christmas, I just couldn't justify to the "Boss" (my wife) spending more than $340.
Happy bidding, :D
Mike
