For sale is a Gerber Mark I boot knife together with its black leather sheath. Designed by Al Mar when he worked for Gerber in the early1970s, the Mark I was produced from 1976 to 1997. Although definitive information is scarce, the consensus seems to be that: (1) the knives produced from 1976 to 1980-81 had blades of L6 tool steel; (2) the knives produced after that had blades of 440C stainless steel and bore serial numbers ending with “S;” and (3) the leather sheath was replaced by a Coudura sheath in the mid-1980s.

This example is slightly under 9 inches in overall length with a double edged spearpoint blade about 8- 13/16 inches long. The blade is marked “085945” on one side of the ricasso and marked “Gerber logo / GERBER / Portland, Ore. U.S.A.”on the other side (see photos). The handle and integral double-guard are aluminum with a black Armorhide coating and the sheath is black leather with an intact and functional snap closure (see photos). The sheath includes a metal belt and/or boot clip marked “GERBER /Portland, OR. / 97223” (see photos).

The knife and sheath are in excellent to very good pre-owned condition, with what looks to be the original factory edges and original blade finish (see photos). The serial number marking is clear and distinct, the markings on the other side of the ricasso are comparatively faint and there are some small areas along the edge of the guard where the black finish has worn away (see photos).

Asking price is $175, which which includes shipping via USPS Ground Advantage anywhere in the continental US. Reasonable offers are welcome. I no longer use PayPal but payment may be made via Zelle, USPS money order or personal check as long as you're willing to wait for the check to clear before the item ships. First “I’ll take it” posted here has priority, please DM me with any questions or offers, thanks.
