Early Remington

Here's a real M & G cattle knife. You might even see the etch (I hope)! The swedges and general fit are great, but the swedges are not as impressive as the catalog cuts.

Charlie,
Nice example. looks like a Schrade contract knife, possibly an 8173 cattle knife. They also contracted with NYKC for a lot of their knives, quite an extensive selection from premier makers.

The RH65 Fishing knife looks kinda cool
I don't recall every seeing those on Ebay
I wonder how rare they are

I agree, Eric. It's almost certainly a Schrade contract knife. They sure made them nice back then.

From post #18,I think the Carpenter's knife, either one & "Trusty",would be great looking Bose knives, and real practical workers, too

I agree with you Vince; then again, almost any of them would look good with the hand of Bose in them!!

I like those old catlog pics. Thanks for showing them. Here are a few pages from a Jos Rodgers c early 1900s catalog.

Charlie I beleive the M & G you posted is a much later knife than the ones pictured. The dark peach gives it away.

I agree with you Tony, probably late 1940s-1950s when Schrade was making them alongside their Walden line, and before imitation jigged bone (delrin?) became the regular handle material.
The swedges are not as pronounced as the older ones, is one thing I noticed, but they are still pretty good.

Vince and Friends,

Hate to be a "Lemming", but that carpenter knife in the ad, sure strikes me as one that I would Love to carry! ( Maybe with Rem bone)?

Tony...does that one "trip your trigger"??? :D

Kent---Blue coller worker!

These old knife catalogues are a valuable asset. It always makes me wonder if some long forgotten or wrongly neglected pattern could be revived by an enterprising maker.

Thomason, your contribution was not only interesting but very funny too:thumbup:Imagine in today's PC world the shrill cry that would go up from feminist harpies if a lady's knife were advertised? Spyderco Ladybug? still less that they are chosen for preety handles...don't we all do that in a way:D

Lambertiana, in post No.18 i saw a knife with the No.437 that reminds me a lot of my Schatt-Morgan Premier English Jack. I'd like a dozen of those 437, 6 in stag 6 in Ebony:thumbup:

Smiling-Knife Really beautiful and superior catalogue there! Ah for the days long gone of a decent English knife.I like the Double Blade selection and the 5 sovereigns bit. It's 5 sovereigns more since that catalogue but I wonder what goes on in Norfolk St. Sheffield now? Not cutlers I'll be bound:(
