Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some information on a Shane Sibert Cascadia Bushcrafter of Unusual Size that I recently acquired from the secondary market.
I’ve been a long-time admirer of Shane’s work and finally secured this unique piece from the secondary market.
Specifications (as shown in photos):
Overall Length: Approx. 10 inches (255mm).
Thickness: Approx. 5/32" to 3/16" (4mm - 5mm).
Unique Features:
Handle: It features a very pronounced "bird's beak" style pommel, which gives it a fantastic vintage look compared to the more rounded handles on later versions.
Markings: The blade has the Sibert logo but no steel markings.
Details: It has a fuller and came with a Kydex sheath + ferro rod loop, but no COA.
I would love some insight on the following:
Production Year:
Based on this bird's beak pommel, when would Shane have produced this specific variation?
Steel Type:
Since there are no markings, what steel was typically used for this build during that period? (S30V, 3V, or something else?)
General History:
Does anyone recall seeing this handle style in earlier runs or custom shows?
I’ve attached several photos for your reference. I'm thrilled to finally add a Sibert to my collection and would appreciate any knowledge you can share!

Thanks for the link! I actually tried reaching out via email and Instagram DM a while ago, but I haven't received a response yet. I suspect there might be an issue with my email (perhaps it went to spam or was blocked), so I’m going to try sending another message from a different email account just in case. I hope that’s not considered too pushy or impolite.

Call him, his phone number is listed…
Thanks, Dawkind! I did see the phone number. Since I'm an international collector, I'm a bit concerned about the language barrier and time zone for a phone call. I'll try the alternative email route first, but I'll definitely keep the phone call as a last resort if all else fails. Appreciate the advice!

Yes that's what I'm thinking...🤔.....But I'm a dunce...😉
Haha, thanks for the advice!
By the way, I just started looking into the Spyderco Subvert and saw your name pop up in the threads. What’s your take on it? Would you recommend hunting for a deal on the secondary market or just grabbing a new one?

Every once in A while you can find one for a good #.......Anything under $300 now would be rare but it happens..
I’m getting back to you now because I have some great news from the past couple of days. My friends and I just completed a group buy for 5 units of the C239CFP at a discounted price—they are absolutely fantastic.
Additionally, I managed to get in touch with the original owner of this knife. He confirmed that this piece is indeed the prototype for the Benchmade 162. He had also previously verified directly with Shane Sibert that the steel used for this specific knife is 3V. It’s great to finally have these details cleared up!
