Hey guys,

Came home from the Steeler loss Sunday evening:( and decided to see if the bay could sooth my weary soul. Found this knife going off in 10 minutes. 1 not so good pic. Knew it for a 3rd ver inverted 2 liner right off but pics didnt allow for nailling down variation.

I have what I/we believe to be a 3rd ver 6th var already and I was hoping it to be one of the few other 3rd versions it could be based on the 2 small inlay rivots and brass rocker. (3, 5, 6 or possibly 8th) Turns out it has 2 rivots visible on both sides of rear bolster making it another 6th.

The ebay pic wasnt good but made it look to be pretty much blemish free. Shows how a poor pic can fool ya. It is in pretty good shape and a good spa will bring her back sweet so I'm not at all disappointed esp for the price. The description was vague so not problems at all with seller. Here are some pics.

got a little left bend in the blade-I gues someone had to pry something at some time:confused:

But overall pretty happy other than I got one already.

This brings the question: Is the 3rd ver 6th var the easiest of inverteds to get or am I just blessed with a gift of finding them and them alone. I have noticed that the 72-74 3liner 5th ver 3rd var are all over the place in the last few months and I wonder if it will be the same on these? I have had luck getting these for real bargain prices while others go much higher. Ex: I just watched a 3rd var 4th ver go much higher. The topic is open for discussion:)

Thanks for lookin and listenen/reading

Fritz

IDIOT ALERT-----I'm editing this several days after initial post and it just came to my attention that the rocker has a head, making it an 8th for certain. I am a dope. I have had my preconcieved thought that the rocker rivot was not headed based on the ebay pic and I have never considered it since-sorry for bringing my moron bug to the forum:o mb was right the 1st time cause I'm sure he saw it. Thanks for not beating me about the head and neck.

Youre right on that ITE, the other 3rd 6th I have I was expecting to be in good shape at best but was absolutely mint, to my great and pleasant surprise.:D

I wonder if the spa will be able to straighten out that blade or even attempt it?

E-mail Joe H or give him a call... He can tell you... May be a new Blade...

Yeah, thats the way to go, I figgered Joe might pop by here and post his impression. If not I'll contact him. I think if it needs a blade, I'd look into someone putting an s30v or damascus on it and polish er up. Wouldnt make sense to me to do a standard blade change on it.

You can always send it to Leroy R... Maybe he can put a new S30V blade in it for you... If he as any or something different...

Yeah I figger if anyone has a s30v blade available, it would be him. I have an '88 with a short blade I have talked to Eric about putting the 486 blade in as well. Great having excellent craftsman like these two as well as Redrummd and others available here through the forum.

My question about installing an S30V blade is that S30V blades are cut for the new generation of 110s and may not fit right in the older 110s. I read on this forum awhile ago that not all 110 blades are interchangeable. Perhaps they can be made to fit.

Another approach would be to cruise the pawn shops and e-bay for an old 110 with a good 440C blade but badly dinged/damaged handle, then have one of the craftsmen cannibalize it for the blade. Or perhaps one of them has an unused old blade to put in it.

Nice score Fritzy,

I like those old 110/112's and there are a few deals out there to be had. I like the old 110's with the brass rocker pins like your latest find. The last one I found is one with no handle pins, but, the blade is a little ruff. However, I like to see these old user knives and wonder what all they have done?????

I get 3rd ver 8 var, I see 2 bur rivits on both sides of the knife. Maybe I'm wrong but thats what my paper work says, either way nice 110. Sent it in and just get it cleaned up and sharpened. Why change out what makes it a 3rd variation what ever?

I have considered the same thing about the newer blades and I wonder.

Nice 4th var jb, quick trip to the spa will clean her right up:thumbup:

I figger if I dont do anything to the blade it will still make a sweet lookin user. The blade isnt so bent that it isnt perfectly functional

Could be mb, I am figgerin 6th because of the no headed rocker rivot, but 8th certainly is one of the possibilities. I dont believe without the original box and paper work that we can be certain.

of course you are right mb-my mistake-see edit at bottom of my inital post-its an 8th for sure

Hi Fritz,

But, I like the well used look on these. Maybe one day I'll send them for a face lift. I can see marks on this one's spine where it has been hit with a rock in the field to split a pelvic bone. That put a smile on my face, old school field dress...just like the way I was taught to do it.

I know that has most folks out there are cringing. But, I have never broke a blade batoning through bone with a rock....yet;). Happiness is: "having your arms up to your elbows inside of a warm chest cavity tugging out a set of lungs". That makes me as happy as finding a new Buck knife.

Thanks for givin us a chance Dave, I only have about 340 more 110's to go to catch up:D

If you are considering a new blade I think giving a try on straightening the factory blade is worth trying first as there is nothing to lose if it breaks.
