East Coast Custom Knife Show!!!!

I am planning on going Friday (hey a knife show is a valid reason to get out of work, right?). Will be my first show in a few years, so looking forward to it. Would be happy to pickup some tickets for you if you want.

Also if you are looking to do the Broadway show thing on Saturday night get to TKTS in Times Square and you should be able to get seats to some great shows. If you are just looking for a nice diner plenty of great options depending on tastes and budget. I am currently in NJ just a few miles from show location but I lived and worked in NYC for many years before. One bit of advice, there are definitely dead ares in the city on weekends. Nothing to be nervous about in terms of security, just don't expect to go downtown and see much activity.

If you don't want to drive into the city (and having done it plenty of times I would understand why) you have a number of options, PATH train or cab would be most direct from the Jersey City area. For a more round about way you could drive to the NY Waterway landing on the Hudson river and take a ferry which would drop you off right by the Intrepid (great exhibit last I went, I saw NASA do a fly by to get the shuttle on board by haven't gone to see it yet). If you do end up in that area Daisy May's BBQ is always good for a casual meal (beef ribs are epic).

Reading your post now while I eat some grub. I am guessing that I should not carry my Large Sebbie with me. Id hate to get in trouble with it even though it is my new toy? I did not even think about that until now. Let me see what you recommend. We honestly have nothing planned besides the show and a nice dinner at one of the more fancy restaurants at the place. I would be open to some options for good eats. Some place that will leave a nice memory. We will be going with plenty of spending $ to take advantage of our weekend date. We are open to anything besides broadway due to our short time there.
Talk in a bit. BTW , are there any good knife shops in the area for production folders!?
Lets see who else is going. Im so very excited. Sunday will also be the first day I have slept in for over two years. I will certainly be doing so!

When I left I understood NY law to be 4" maximum blade, concealed carry required. Carried a large Sebbie plenty of times without issue.

For a more upscale diner you might want to try Nobu or Nobu 57 (basically same menu with 57 being more uptown). It is Japanese inspired but I wouldn't call it traditional Japanese. If you have some time and want to spend the money the tasting menu will give you a nice multi course meal showing the best they have to offer. For some more upscale American BBQ there is Blue Smoke (which also has a Jazz club with live music in the basement) a few blocks from Madison Square Park. If you are a fan of bourbon they offer a really nice bourbon tasting. One "attraction" in this area I would avoid is Shake Shack, in nicer weather the line can be a couple of hours for a burger and fries that is slightly better than your local diner in my mind. You would be much better off walking a block to Park Ave and eating at NY Burger Co. Having worked in this area for a few years I must let you know of at least one of the local dive bars, Live Bait, with a motto of "Warm beer, Cold food, and Lousy Service". If you stop in for a drink have a Bubba Slush in honor of Head Bubba who departed this world last year. There is also a nice small pasta joint (at least for lunch, never been for diner) on 3rd called Lamarca.

If you are in the mood for some traditional tourist sites and go to Murray Hill area to see the Empire State building you are right in the area of a Korea town and can get some great meals in any number of hole in the wall places serving traditional food. There is also of course the World Trade Center site, haven't been there in a fair number of years. When I was last there they were still working on getting the new structure above ground level. From what I remember though (mostly going in to work there) on weekends it is pretty much empty and it was difficult finding decent places that were open.

If you plan on spending some time in the city take advantage of the subway, get a day pass MetroCard. You will be able to get on any NYC Transit bus or train for the valid period (for your case probably a day) and easily be able to get around the city.

Wow, that is alot of great information. Thank you so much. This allows me to have a few days to research these joints with my wife and decide what would work best for us. Using some of the ideas that you have given we can try and make a nice travel route to make the most of our trip. I have to admit, when I am near anything resembling a city. I easily get overwhelmed.
Thank you,
I will try and send an email about the tickets and some other info.
If you do not get it please email me at brusher.matt@yahoo.com.

Fri and Sat 4 me.

I'm hoping the fellow that sells those nice padded clam shell zippered pouches will be there.
I purchased this one last time and should have purchased one of the very small ones (not easy to find) for my Orange Ladybug H1.

Everyone here who is going, we should figure out a way to identify each other from the regular people

BellaBlades I'll be there, you can get tickets in a very short time at the door so don't worry about that. I currently live in Manhattan and just want to clarify that NYC knife laws are pretty intense. Maybe things have gotten worse for knife knuts since ErikD left!! They trained police to look for knife pocket clips and they don't hesitate to confiscate/issue citations/fines. There has been a lot on BF and elsewhere about the NYC crackdown on knives. I only ever carry a Spyderco Pingo with the pocket clip removed on my person. So I really would encourage you not to carry your Sebbie when you're in NYC!

I also wanted to suggest a really great south east asian restaurant called Spice Market. http://www.spicemarketnewyork.com/ It's very upmarket and the decor inside is amazing. My girlfriend loved it when I took her there. Said it was the best restaurant experience she'd had!! It's classy and the food is delicious but it's not outrageously expensive. Wherever you go definitely try and make reservations because otherwise you could be in for a wait.

There are a few sports stores that have a very limited selection of knives (EMS, Paragon Sports, Beretta store) but the only real knife shop is Beautiful Blades on East 58th. Kind of a strange shop but really good selection of custom and production knives. http://www.beautifulblades.com/ Also at the show there should be some too, at the NYCKs a couple of months back the True North Knives booth had production folders for really good prices.

That's my 2c - enjoy your mini vacation!

Mazibuko, thank you for the great suggestions. I will probably get all the knife fix I need at the show alone. I will be looking into the food you have suggested.

MathewsZ7. As the guy has also said above. I will be leaving the sebbie at home in top secret hiding spot. I guess I will have to go with my 2 inch gerber my wife found at a flea market a few years back. BLAH!. I certainly wont risk losing it.
Although I wont know who any of you are, im glad to know fellow knife nuts will be going. I am so excited.

I'm going on Friday and then popping in perhaps for the Hinderer auctions if there are 3" XM-18s on the block. Hoping to hold in my hand a Sebenza.... CRK isn't going is anyone aware of a dealer who will have them?

Does anyone know if I would be allowed to bring a Camcorder and take video at the show? I was thinking of making a youtube vid of it. I dont want to bring a camcorder to the show and have someone tell me I cant use it and have to leave it in the car in Jersey City......that would make me nuts. If anyone has any info on that id apprectiate it.

You can bring a video camera, no issues.
If a particular vender doesn't want to appear on camera, they'll let you know, as far as video at a particular table, always best to just politely say "do you mind if I take some shots/video", everyone has a camera/video camera.
