Good morning all!

I will soon be moving to Florida from New York and will be driving down making some stops along the way. Any recommended knife meccas I should visit? I've been looking for an excuse to buy a 940...

I'm sure there are a bunch but the only one that comes to mind is Smoky Mtn. Knife Works. Unfortunately Tennessee is a bit off the I95 corridor.

Thanks!

It's not on I-95 but I definitely recommend stopping at Smokey Mountain Knife Works on the way, if you are looking to knives then it's a great place to spend a couple hours. That place it huge.

Also in Fredericksburg VA is Knife Center. While they don't have a "show room", they are one of the largest web knife sellers on the web and will sell directly if you stop buy.

Check out the Classic Edge knife store in Richmond, VA. It is not far from I-95. Their prices will be much better than SMKW. I was really impressed with what they had in stock; they had a huge selection of Benchmade, Spyderco, Arno Benard, ESSE, and many more that I am forgetting. I spent two hours trying out knives, the owner was very friendly and had no problem letting me try as many knives as I wanted. I expected the prices to be higher than the average on-line prices, but that was not the case, they were not marked up.

I walked out with a Crooked River and a Manix 2.

Just as a heads up Knife Center told me yesterday when I walked in before 5 that they were closed even though their website says 530. I was also told that if I wanted to buy something I had to give them an hour head's up. I wanted to handle a couple of knives before I made a decision before I bought anything but apparently that's not an option. Information that would be helpful if mentioned on their site. Don't get me wrong I like their website and online selection. I'm just posting for informational purposes.

New Graham would be a hike, but worth it, I presume, one of my trips that I would like to make.

Edgeworks in Frederick MD is worth the stop. If you want to take a trip to the Delmarva, Willey Knives is worth a visit.

NAN, let us know where you end up stopping and give us a few pics if possible. We need to support B&M stores as much as possible.

Shooters in Jax (as mentioned above) has a good lineup of production knives. Arizona Custom Knives is south of Jacksonville, not all that far off of 95. They don't have a retail showroom but will sell directly if you let them know in advance that you want to stop by.

Good morning all and thanks for recommendations.

I went ahead and stopped yesterday at The Classic Edge in Virginia. The experience was really, really great. Upon entering I was greeted by the stores owner, Bob. He gave me a few minutes to look around on my own and soon joined afterwards to answer any questions. They have a really great selection. The store is divided in two with the entry area dedicated to tactical folders and custom / handmade knifes. The other side of the store is dedicated to traditional slip joints, survival knives and axes. They carry both new and old slip joints but was very impressed with the vintage selection.

Bob, the owner, could not have been any nicer. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. Was more than happy to let me try and handle any knife in the store. Ended up with a 940 (been looking for an excuse to buy one for a while). The best part of The Classic Edge was the prices. Extremely, extremely reasonable. Some of the best I've seen. Overall just a really great experience and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. If not Bob said he was more than happy to deal over the phone and through the mail and after seeing his prices I'm 100% sure I'll be in contact with him.

No pics though, sorry. Left my phone in the car. Thanks again and all the best.

Glad to hear you made it to Classic Edge and that they were open. They are great but they do travel a lot for gun shows.
