As I said, they were used originally to ship heleocopter gyros by the Navy. I bought a pile of them from a mil-surp store in Pensacola just down the street from NAS Pensacola. I gave $5 for the ones with cracks, $10-15 for the ones in good shape. It took about fifteen minutes to remove the interior suspension cradles/straps/springs, another 15 minutes to paint them after "welding" the cracked ones with a soldering iron. They have rubber gaskets around the interior lip where the two halves split. Most are about 30"x38"x 30" high. I found a few that were smaller, about 24x24x24", and one that is about 14" square. They are great for covered storage, but can become brittle if left out in direct sunlight for long periods.
