Ok guys I need to see if there is any interest for a hammer in here. I am the president of the East Ky Sportsman Association (the website is a work inprogress) we participate in all outdoor activites hunting, fishing, boating as well as shooting sports.
I am trying to put together a hammer in for sometime late next spring, but I need to to see if any makers would be interested in coming to demo. Also how many would like to come just to take part and watch. Our club may be able to pick up some expenses for the demonstrators.
Anyway if anyone is interested let me know.

Thank you

If the dates work I’ll head down and watch/ camp etc. It might be in Fred Rowe’s neck of the woods and if we can get enough lead time I’ll see if I can post a notice in the local knife store where a few makers hang out.

As far as the place, it will be in Pikeville, Pike county. We are about 25 miles from both the VA and WVA borders in the eastern part of Ky.
For the dates, I dont have one firm yet but sometime around late April.

BTW Carlisle is not too far, I have family in Mt Sterling and I can be there in about 1.5 hour.

I'm in the Northwest part of Smyth County. Anybody going to do any tomahawk demos yet ?

Nope, did you just volunteer?:):)

We are going to try to tie this in with a Boone and Crockett gathering, which would have muzzleloader shoot, tomahawk throws etc. We have a pretty active SASS (cowboy action shooting) group in the club, so we have several guys who have great costumes.

I'm in carter co....I'd like to just come and watch!!!!!!!! I used to live in floyd co, so I know the area well..........

I'd be interested in coming as long as it's not the last Saturday of the month, that's the day we run our SASS match up here.

Hey, there, all.

I'm also interested!
And I know a few fellows that would be interested as well.
I live in Pikeville, actually, so the grounds are a 10 minute drive...

I sent a PM, OP...but I'm pretty new to this site and apparently it doesn't yet like me to be messing with messages...
so sorry I haven't answered your reply.

Take care, all!

Thanks for the response guys. I will keep everyone updated, when we settle on the date.

Jim, you know if you ain't east of I-75 you ain't a real Kentuckian.:)

Update
Well while planning for the hammer in I got involved in helping to organize a Ky Knifemakers Guild. While it is still in the planning stages we are planning to have a meeting this spring, I think in April. I have put the hammer in at the sportsman club on hold until fall.

The idea behind the guild is to promote knifemakers from Ky. We have talked about having a hammer in in the spring and a show in the fall. If anyone has any questions or would like any info please let me know.

Also Mike Carter has been kind enough to start a website please check it out. If you are a Ky maker Mike will add your info for free.

East Ky Sportsman Assoc, you say? I'm in Floyd County...and I'm hearing about this just now..WHY?!

It'd be neat to see something like this start up here. We need more of this stuff around.
