Pictures borrowed from ebay auctions won yesterday.
Also won four Camillus LR series knives. Was a busy Easter Sunday.

My "gets" were pretty modest, but I'll be glad when they arrive. The first came today, a bit early for a "basket-buy", but I was happy to see it in my hands.

Sears Roebuck & Co. Fall & Winter 1941-42. Over thirty pocket knives on one page, and another dozen or so scattered around. The few hunting sheath knives appear to be Westerns.

This weekend produced a Craftsman 9481

I can't tell much from the "Lost in Space" photo, but I hope it is better than the one I have. Here is the info on it:
9481 - SW 293 2 bl. 3 7/8" Trapper, Staglon (1971)

And a Schrade Walden 897UH, hopefully as pristine as the picture indicates.

This one is supposed to be serial #A4424 so it could be an early one. Said to be MIB with papers.

With e-bay's new bidder cloaking system, I have no way of knowing if I am bidding against my friends, so sorry if one of you were after these.

Michael

Those look very nice Michael. i also pick up a Schrade Walden H-15, again poor quality pics., so only me bidding, $9.95. with org. sheath, looks unused but tarnished. i like these "mystery" auctions, cheap thrills awaiting knives arrival, and no big loss if knife is sub par. roland

How does the numbering work on the Uncle Henry 897 serial number?

I have two with no letters
12169
92572

Also wonder if there were different Schrade Walden Stamps on this pattern. Both are the same:
SCHRADE
WALDEN
N.Y. USA
STAINLESS

The sheepsfoot and spey are marked stainless.

Good price! Yeah, I have been pleasantly surprised by the results of more than one auction where the photos were very poor. Often, it isn't a pro-scammer trying to slip one by, but "mom-n-pop" trying to make grocery money. These are some of my favorites.

At this point in time, we really don't know for sure. The serials may have followed the same routine as we saw on my LB-7 research where all numerics were first, then they began adding an alpha prefix. If this were so, 99999 + 4424 = 104,423. I would have to go thru the production records from 1966 forward to get a reliable estimate of the timeframe for the earlier serials. Of course, the further from the beginning we count, the greater the error. Rejects, etc.

Well the bunny :confused:meaning ME picked up his prizes on Sat. just got them kinda cleaned up today:D. 2-152's, 2-OT lb7's,OT858,sc505, 2-SAK's NIB, Gambill solingen germany(fixed blade)? Hate to say what I have in this mess:eek:$30.00? From a pawn shop no less. Pics later.:D OH and the 7's are carbon!!! 858+ none of it used very much, been laying in the pawn safe needing some TLC.;)

Stroker, the 858 is a great score. if in good condition, these often hit $100 on ebay. most are Schrade+, if yours is Schrade, then it's the less common, more desired one. da Bunny did ya good !
so, i've seen lots of these knives, but not with Schrade:

Timsclips,What is that critter on your Scrimshaw and more to the point which direction is it running?....I havnt seen one before.
Codger are you sure you got that Sears Catalog strictly for the knives and not because those mannequin's look like your earliest girlfriends in what do you yanks say in Junyar Prooom.!
Nice 9481 and 897UH.Hoo Roo

Yup, Cammy made these for Albert. I have no idea why. Tom Williams sent me a copy of the "S Card" on these a while back.

Timsclips scrim is an eagle and in my dim memory I have a vision of it being another SFO for Tharpe. Pinecone stamped on the pile side cover?

Well Larry, there are some neat "unmentionables" in the catalog. But even in the catalogs of that era, risque was not allowed. I am, however quickly closing in on the beginning of the use of the Craftsman name on pocket knives. Previously, I had seen them appear in 1943 at the earliest, a revelation in itself considering conventional wisdom from all the experts stated that the mark was not used on them until after WWII. Now we have the fall of 1941 as earliest use. And I am still assembling a complete library of period catalogs from the era. Isn't it curious that it appears more and more as if the Craftsman mark coincides with Albert Baer's aquisition of Dwight Divine's Ulster? The Ulster Knife Co., Inc. certificate of incorporation was dated January 15, 1941. I have archive notes which indicate that he received help in the purchase and startup by none other than Uncle Tom Dunlap and Frank Kethcart, the Sears hardware buyer and the cutlery buyer.

Frank shortly left Sears, went to work for Albert and then headed his Vulcan plant in New Jersey.

Vulcan was formed with Sears as 25% owner to provide Sears branded safety razor blades.

Scrimshaw is a perched eagle with wings outstreached pointing to the right, I will have to wait until it gets here to see what is on the other side. Should have it by this weekend as the seller stated it was mailed Monday morning.

Oh what a tangled corperate (spelling) web even 65+ yrs ago. And every one thinks things were not as complex welllll, companys did what they could to get going and survive just as the do presently!?

Here are the bunny tracks.:D100_1231.jpg the 858 looks scratched but I think the marks are from rubbing the liner it still had the original oil on it?

I've found a few Schrades in a pawn shop before, but never a sackfull at once! Nice haul!

Here is one I forgot about until I stopped at the post office on the way home today. A Sears Craftsman #9549 utility. Not pristine, but not nearly as fuzzy as the seller's photo from eBay.

The info on this pattern from the Codger Files:

9549 - Ulster 114 Utility 4 bl. 3 5/8c. (1966)

and...
