I went out in search of spalted maple burl today. No real luck, but I did find a nice dead standing maple that has a lot of promise. I'll have to return with my pack frame and a larger axe.
It was in the low 30's and very windy today. There is still plenty of ice in the woods up in the hills....
About the only thing green is moss, and this moss has icicles hanging from it.
Here is a log across a tiny stream, forming a small dam. The sun hits it long enough that there is some bright green moss or algae growing on it where the water runs off.
Foam forming below a tiny waterfall is pushed out in a pattern that looks like ripples, but the water surface is flat.
Taking a rest. That's a Trail Blazer take-down bow saw. It comes apart and packs inside the longer tube. It's a great tool. Lower left is a Maxpedition Falcon II daypack. It gets a lot of use and I really enjoy it.
I forgot to build a fire so I could post in the weekend fire thread! I was in the woods most of the day and cooked a warm lunch. I decided to pack light and carried a tiny esbit stove to heat my foil-packed Ahi tuna steak, cook my Ramen noodles and boil water for tea, so I didn't need a fire.
Almost forgot a knife shot! I carried a Koster BF Bushcraft in a JRE sheath on my belt, a Vic Farmer in my pocket, and a Busse SARsquatch and Wetterlings 16" Hunter's Axe in my pack.
Happy Easter to everyone,
