Easy open Jacks...Let's see 'em.

I've owned quite a few of the easy openers in my day. This is my favorite pattern. One day I'm going to either make my own or get someone to make one in an easy open Wharncliffe single blade just to have it but for now this one from Marbles 2001 has been seeing a lot of uses. I love the blades on this one and blued them myself after getting it.

Great thread. Love these knives. This one here has Buffalo horn handles. 3.1 ounces of pocket joy here IMO.

I couldn't believe the quality of bone on this piece, so I took a red hot pin and sure enough it's bone...

[...] Anyone who has any info to date this jem please chime in.The knife walks and talks with the best of them now and has found it's way into my pocket ever since.

Might as well post this here again.
Here's an old one I picked up the other day. Can anyone tell me how old it is? Imperial over Prov. R.I., USA on the pen.
That would be the tang stamp used from '56 - '88 if I remember correctly.

So my best guess would be late 50's early 60's.
Of course there are many more knowledgeable people than me.

edit: Oh and great knives everybody, keep 'em coming.

I've been eyeballin them on Ebay keensharp. There was a Buster Brown and another Endicott shoes, but with no bail and a screaming large shield up for auction. The Endicott one had a pen blade instead of a screwdriver.

So have I. I seen the buster brown one by imperial but not the other endicott.

Great information here guys!

Here is one of my vintage Imperial fixed blades for an example of the 1946-1956 tang stamp:

Hi all,

I just picked up a vintage Imperial EO Jack in celluloid that I just couldn't pass up. I am not a huge fan of celluloid for the most part but I am digg'n these old cell scales for they're color and pattern, and although she is lacking a bail, I really like the "tipped" bolsters on this one. She should be landing here in a few days. Here is a preview..

Hey SunnyD, I had my eye on that one too.I'm glad I didn't bid on it to run up your price.

I know what you mean about the bench grinders IVANKERLEY. I've had a few of those. The main blade has a decent looking shape to the edge. I can see why it was your everyday carry. They make for a very strong knife. The two I have now, the Camillus and the Imperial are the only two that see my pocket now,...exept for maybe this one...

Anyone know who made these? My guess is Imperial.

This isn't 'traditional', but it is an Easy Open Jack. :D This isn't quite finished yet but I thought that I would share a couple pics anyway. I did this at hand at my desk while running reports / compiling code. The work was done with the metal file and chisel on my Abrasive YoMan, my Brusletto Balder (hope I spelled all that right) and some coarse sandpaper. I need to polish it some more, but overall I am quite happy with it.

Navihawk, excellent jigging and scales in that picture of yours,RICH colour there, really an eyeful!

I received this one from Ken Coats here on the forum...I sure like it! Hope it's OK to use his photo...:D

That's a cool looking knife, Sheila! How long is it??

Thanks for this great thread! Keep posting!!
Charlie, Navihawk, glad you like this Ken Coats!
This is what Ken Coats wrote about this knife:
This is a big knife and it's made to pluck so it does not have a nail nick. Very smooth action, about a 5 on the pull open scale.

Blade and spring are ATS 34, Cryo quenched. Rc 62. 3/32" stock.
Blade is hollow ground. Cut swedges. 600 grit hand finish.
Frame and fittings are nickel, mill relieved. Bomb shield is pinned.
Scales are green linen base Micarta.
4 1/2" closed, 8" open.
Back is flush in open, closed and half stop positions.

SOLE AUTHORSHIP. All parts made by me in my shop.

Folks, Ken did an outstanding job on this one...fit & finish is flawless! He's a nice Guy as well!

Nice big knife, Bopgirl! I like the sunk joint, and eccentric shape. Form follows function on that beauty. Looks like it's easy to "pinch" the blade to pop it open. Way cool!!!!!
