Maybe try it on a Opinel (wood handle, easier to do to get experience).

Maybe you can find a beer scout? Otherwise you could slipjoint a backlock(by grinding down the lock surface) this way you can tweak the pressure needed to release the blade the way you want
Well the spring on the caplifter can quite stiff but with the blade it shouldn't be any problem as you can pinch it with your fingers to open it and don't need to use the nailnick.I guess you meant GEC #15 Beer Scout. @traumkommode mentioned that it could have a stiff spring above.
Do you have different experience?
Back home, took a quick look at the collection and you may also look into the GEC48 improved trapper and Northwoods Fremont Jack.
I have the same problem with arthritic hands and have modded a number of my traditionals like Rich S. suggested. Easy thing to do and really extends the usability.--KVIf you have a Dremel rotary drill you can easily convert most any single or two bladed pen into an easy opener. Just grind down the scale and liner around the nail nick. I've done it several items on my knives (mostly with G10 scales, but also with jigged bone scales.

Use a triangle file to make a starting/guide notch. Makes it easier to hold steady.--KVRich,
