Eat My Own Words - Cold Steel Knives

I picked up my first CS knife last week... a Rajah II. It's built like a tank.

I needed to carry a knife out back today, it was my ESEE6.

I'm not sure any folder can compare with the esee 6 or 5 1/3" and 1/4" thick nearly a lb of steel.

I've been buying their products on and off since the 80s.I've only been disappointed in one. That was the new style push dagger that was only ground on one side of the blade, hate it!Other than that I have been quite satisfied.

OK design, but AUS8 (( not appropriate ))
The end.

False. I think the steel is a pretty good choice for the application. It won't chip and it gets very sharp very easily, at least in my experience.

CS did good job on this AUS8 ( I am not fan of CS or AUS8)
I actually hate aus8 and aus6 but Recon and American Lawman great knifes with very strong locks , I will say one of best locks today .
this is old HP pc with thick steel case , I wanna see how many folder will do that , especially in this price category.

My first CS was the old style AK-47 with the Ultra-Lock. I carried it for a long time before I chose something else to EDC (I opted for something lighter). I'm not particularly for or against their marketing (i.e. I could care less) but they do make a good product. I now have the new AK-47 with the Tri-ad Lock and it's an excellent work knife. To date, I own the following CS knives and use them all regularly:

- AK-47 Ultra-lock
- AK-47 Tri-ad lock
- Kobun
- SRK
- Roach Belly
- Finn Bear

I have a few older ones, Recon Tanto, Pendleton Mini, Bushman, Vaquero Grande, Kobun, and some others that don't come to mind right now. I have been turned off to find that so many of their knives are now made in Taiwan. Am I missing the boat here?? Are these imports actually made of a decent steel, and my biases standing in the way of a pretty decent knife.

I was thinking of a Canadian Belt knife to keep in a pack during hunting season. Could I dress out a deer or two with one of these without trashing the blade??

Many of the older blades were made in Japan or Taiwan. There is nothing problematic about Taiwan. Only the Carbon V were made in the US, by Camillus.

The first Cold Steel I handled was a Recon with the Ultra lock. It was too hefty for me to consider buying. But the other day I was at a sporting goods store and I handled an AK-47 and a Recon (both with Tri-ad locks) and I was pleasantly surprised at the F&F and how lightweight they both were considering they are big folders. I had my reservations about them but I now see myself picking up a Cold Steel folder in the near future

2 whole pages & none of the usual CS hatred? This is refreshing. Steel snobs need not apply but CS is hard to beat for overbuilt working folders. I've owned plenty of their products & never been disappointed. They're also rather creative & try all sorts of strange ideas most companies never would.

The old voyagers are good value knives. What are the differences between the old voyagers and the 2011 models, anybody knows?

I picked up a Talwar when they discontinued the design as an investment knife. I figured it was too heavy/pretty to EDC. I actually liked it so much that I carry it whenever I'm wearing jeans.

I bought a Talwar when CS was selling them at a discounted price. I liked it so much I bought the Black Sable too. Both knives are very impressive and getting them for around $160 each makes them that much better.
The original price was way over the top ( I think they were selling for about $300), but they're easily worth more than I paid for them.

Handle looks different, Triad lock on the new ones, and the steel is AUS8 now

Ive never had any major issues with cs...ive got the sisu, and its on par with the Tapio Wirkkala puukkos ive got as well (i have the large and small one) I think the handle is very user friendly, but a bit slippery, nothing a little sandpaper cant fix.
