Eat My Own Words - Cold Steel Knives

You can notice a lot more than usual sometimes , if you just sit back and read what certain people say about particulars. Many of the folks on here over the years who have talked crap on LT have the very same over-inflated ego themselves , they just do not realize it. Or.. maybe the are just jealous of LT ?

- i.e. The legions of fanboys of certain knife companies or makers that trumpet their cause over and over and over while looking down upon the lowly folks who do not yet own , or cannot afford to own the high dollar knives. The Class System on these forums is sickening and embarrassing to put it lightly.

Cold Steel serves a useful purpose in the knife world just like Kershaw , Benchmade , CRK etc... do. Cold Steel has earned its place in the knife world , whether someone likes it or not. Saying Cold Steel blatantly rips off others is sort of funny when you think of Benchmade , for starters... That sort of stuff has been going forever no matter the product and probably always will , it is unfortunatly human nature in some folks. I'm just saying don't judge one company unless you are going to judge them all , unscrupulous business is a sad part of any world, including the knife world , but it is there.

Anyways , I'm gonna go fiddle with my mini lawman.

Peace :)

Tostig

I own a fair number of Cold Steel knives and can say that I have been pleased with them. :)

Right on tostig. So many knife world people are small minded and just frontin' their game and to hell with anyone else.

Odd to make a judgemental post to complain about people being judgemental...

Anyways, Lynn doesn't need anyone defending his honour methinks.
Poor guy only has a successful company selling products he likes a bunch.
My heart bleeds for the poor little dear (that's sarcasm, by the way).

Somehow I doubt he cares a whit for what some internet people complain about (or say in his defense).

Yeah, all LTC needs to know is how successful his company has been for the past 25+ years and still is.

Exactly.:)
Hell, on May 24 weekend, we were getting in touch with our caveman side with that Cold Steel War Club down at Rondeau beach.
Bashed everything in site till the steel bolt sheared off.
Good times.:D (especially since it belonged to my friend;))

That sounds like it was a lot of fun. :D

The ball headed war club? That thing is awesome, my brother has one.

Not a complaint , just an observation and you know I speak the truth.

Who could imagine in the tiny world of knife lovers that such widescale snobbery exists ? One would think we would all have a little mutual respect for one another regardless of what your poison is.

;)

By the way , I anxiously await the CS Gladius ! :D

Yep, that's the one.:)
My wife thought it was really cool, and got in on the bashing fun.
Railroad ties, driftwood, trees, it's just plain addictive!

Yet strangely we often don't.:(
I've noticed lately the emergence of a new form of snobbery, in which it is best to like inexpensive knives.
So now we have high-end snobs versus economy snobs, on top of all the other categories of snob which already existed.
Ick.

I had for a long time an original voyager medium (they call it that, it's their smallest size so that makes no sense) in tanto point with half serrated blade. it was my EDC for many years and a fantastic knife. I used it for things you're told not to, prying, screwdriver (another advantage to a tanto) and it was a champ. I have a big Vaquero I carry, especailly fun at Christmas when somebody wants to borrow a knife to open a present and know I'm probably the only one in the room with one.

I'd love another original style vaquero, tanto, plain edge, if I could find one. the new handle style does not appeal to me. The new recon and lawmen look real good, I'll have to put them on my list. Next folder I want though is something assisted opening. there's a thread here somewhere I have to finish reading that lists a bunch of that style and some are under 100.

Cold Steel is definitely value for your money. (I have a kukri too, forgot to mention that, and have bought and given as gifts a lot of other ones. I have a friend who has I think every machete they make)

My primary folder EDC is the CS American Lawman. I simply love that knife and Cold Steel has made one of the best knives imo.

Cold Steel CAN be value for your money. My preference is for Asian weapons, and I'd rather go Hanwei than Cold Steel for most swords. Not that they don't make a fine product, but they're far more expensive for what you get than Hanwei is, in my opinion. For knives and other random weapons, Cold Steel is pretty great. Hard to find better polearms for the price, the Sure Strike is probably the best commercially available shuriken out there, and they have some fantastic knives. Just got a Peace Keeper 1 in San Mai III in yesterday. Loving it! And hard to do better on a budget than those machetes. Swords... I haven't been as impressed so far.

I have bought several from CS over the years. First was one of the original Japanese made Tantos. All Terrain Hunter, Pendelton Hunter, Recon Tanto, Bushman, folding bushman and several machetes.
All have given good service, none has failed at anything.

I still get a kick out of the fact that those who defend Cold Steel are called fanboys when at the same time, whenever a knife recommendation thread is started, every freakin model of Spyderco currently on the market is suggested. I don't care if the thread is asking about slipjoints...

This is what I am TALKING aboot.

Not a huge fan, I dislike the "warranty" and uber tactical look.

The triad is tough as hell however I have never required a lock that tough- all my liner locks from Spyderco are tough enough for what I use them for so /shrugs. But I can appreciate the engineering behind the triad lock and its theoretical limits in terms of tensile strength even though I will never* buy one.

*currently.
