I just wana see how many people eat or prepare food with their edc. Do you sterilize it first or any thing at all? Personally i don't thinking about how many time my blade has been coated in grime and gook. :barf: :thumbdn:

I don't take my BK2 into the kitchen and cut up the tomato's, I use my nice Kitchen Cutlery for that.
If I am out and about, and the knife provided at the restaurant sucks, I sometimes will pull out my EDC blade.

I use EDC and similar knives in the kitchen routinely, but any of them get at least rinsed (if I cleaned them after last use) or soap & water washed first. I don't use a grubby utility EDC in a restaurant unless I can clean it or it's a knife like my Mnandi that I brought for that.

Basically, I understand there are specialized knives for a lot of kitchen work but the whole idea of EDC is that it can handle simple basic cutting anywhere.

The CS 4" Zytel Ti-Lite is my go-to knife for eating. It stays sharp and clean easy, so why not? Plus it looks cool eating an apple with it.

Wow maybe im weird for not eating with mine. Tentmaker made me want an apple. To bad its past 10 and we don't have any. :grumpy:

I use mine all the time on the ambulance though I hate thinking back on all the crap that thing has cut through. But yes, I do use Expose to sterilize my knife after it's been through the gnar of the day and before I eat.

I never use edc knives to eat, have u even seen how dull they get when rubbed against ceramic plates??

I use mine for food, but I wash them before and after if possible. If I cant wash I at least try to wipe them down. Then again I'm the kind of person who washes my hands only when I need to like after the bathroom and such. And in responce to the post above, I never use an edc knife on anything harder than a plastic plate.

Thats why I usually carry two. A smaller slipjoint for food, and a Spyderco Dyad for everything else.

I do all the time. I eat lost of fruit, and I've found that I don't like to eat it unless it's been cut up. Being a knife collector synthesizes well with my eating habits!

But, yes, you should wash your knife as soon as possible after using it on food--especially if it's possible you will use it on more food later.

Yea, my edc's are constantly being used to cut food. Its such a common occurrence that I never use them for toe nails. Its even changes the way they're maintained. I wash them in warm soapy (normally anti bacterial) water, and lube them with PAM. In a long ago thread, someone made a comment about guys who are afraid to consume a little gun oil. I'm by no means afraid to and have done so on many occasions. I just really don't like the break free flavor on my food. So, I stick with PAM.

I use my edc at work to cut up salad veggies that I brought from my garden. I do wash the blade with soap and water after and make sure it is dry beffore putting it back in my pocket

I use my BK11 to eat all the time - just did some pork chops tonight with it. I always put it away clean though.

My 3 favorite knives for food prep are a Cold Steel Kudu (most used), a Cold steel X2 Voyager and a Spyderco Military. All get a soap and water rinse before and after.
