Eating or food prep with your edc?

Yea, my edc's are constantly being used to cut food. Its such a common occurrence that I never use them for toe nails. Its even changes the way they're maintained. I wash them in warm soapy (normally anti bacterial) water, and lube them with PAM. In a long ago thread, someone made a comment about guys who are afraid to consume a little gun oil. I'm by no means afraid to and have done so on many occasions. I just really don't like the break free flavor on my food. So, I stick with PAM.

Ill try PAM next time i was my blade I use 3&1 oil on mine. LOL BUT "I stick with PAM." was that on purpose. :D

I've used my BRKT Bumblebee for food prep but that's the only one. I just can't see using one of my folders unless there was no other alternative.

Not so much for food prep but I do use mine* all the time for halving sammiches, slicing sausage, cutting fruit & cheese, etc.

*Main blade - I use the pen/secondary blade for cutting tape and such, opening packages, what-have-you.

I just wana see how many people eat or prepare food with their edc. Do you sterilize it first or any thing at all? Personally i don't thinking about how many time my blade has been coated in grime and gook. :barf: :thumbdn:

This is one of the reasons I carry 2 or 3 knives. I have one knife with me that gets used for food chores. It's washed often(at least once a day) since it's used for food often. My food chore knife, also my slicer in my HD/slicer combo used to be a blue stretch and got lubed with olive oil(food safe). Now my slicer is a grey para and doesn't need lube.

I never use my folders in the kitchen or for food prep at all.

I have knives for those purposes...

I use my EDC (recently a Delica or a SOG Visionary I) to eat sometimes. For food preparation at home I don't use to, but when I was moving for a new flat I used folders and big, thick partially serrated knives to prepare food :D
I never use edc knives to eat, have u even seen how dull they get when rubbed against ceramic plates??
Once when I was using a titanium folder I noticed the ceramic plate was being scratched. I tried another plate from a different ceramic, the same happened. In the end I made a 1mm deep cut into a beer bottle. That's ti's wear resistance, the downside is that it took me DAYS to remake the edge on the sharpmaker (with all rods) LOL :D :D

At work, I EDC a small traditional slip joint ( GEC Barlow or Case Peanut). I use it regularly to cut up fruit, meat, or cheese during lunch.

I never really thought much about it, but I always wash my knife AFTER eating with it. For restaurants where the house knives might be dull I bring a simple SAK gardener. a single blade slippy I use just for that. I sharpen it often, so it getting dull is not really an issue.

Just wipe the blade on my trousers, unless there is visible gunk on the blade. Wash after so it doesn't stick up. Use your immune system!

I do, and I just wipe the blade off on my pants before I use it.
Same here. I wipe it off first, but that's about it.
It never really stays grimy, because I clean it after I use it if necessary. So, when I pull it out to make my sandwich at work, it's already (generally) clean enough. Never gets put away dirty.
At home, or in a restaurant, I generally don't use my EDC because there are other knives around that are better suited to the task. The only times I do use my personal carry knife for food prep or eating are when I'm making my lunch at work, or if I'm camping/road tripping/traveling.

I carry two knives. A dirty one and a clean one. The clean ones is used in the kitchen a lot.

I do not use usually my EDC to eat or prepare food. Only very occasionally - if there is no regular kitchen knife at hand. And I never use my folding knife in a restaurant, pub or canteen. That I believe would be something snobbish and inappropriate.

I use my EDC's for eating all the time, but I also regularly sterilize them. In fact, we used my knives at my bachelor party to cut up and serve food, because the organizer had forgotten about knives for cutting the cheese and bread and such.
