EBay 112 arrived.

Ok so just download it lmgur app?

And i’ll find out when Buck started rounding the brass bolsters. I hve seen 4 dot 110’s both flat amd rounded. My 4 dot fingergrooved 110 is rounded. So i called and they gave me the date so when i get home i’ll post. And tharanger is very nice!!

I wrote in my book 1984 is when the catalog showed the rounded bolsters. I call Buck probably too much with questions. It helpes narrow down the date of my 4 dot 110 to 1984-86. I have another 4 dot with square bolsters so that would be narrowed to 1982-84. Not sure why your ranger 2 dot is rounded. I know you just needed a great knife but it does seem a mystery???

From my old notes: (I think this was from Joe Houser.)

"""The 112 does not appear to follow the same pattern as its big brother, the 110, as it pertains to the dot blade markings. For instance, the first time we see rounded edges on the 110 handle is on a 4 dot version. The first time we see it on the 112 is on a 3 dot version. An explanation for this is that there was probably quite a few 112’s made up with the 3 dot stamp and it took a while to use them all up. This is the best theory we have right now on that."""

And this is credited to Vern Taylor:

"""At the NRA show in 1981 (?) in Phoenix (I'm sure of the city but not the date), Chuck brought some samples of the 110 and 112 with radiused bolsters. They varied from mild to radical rounding and they had all been hand done. We voted on a design at that show and Chuck went home determined to change the tooling. Before that became reality, Buck started hand rounding the bolsters; those are NOT as radiused as the tooling came out. SO - if it has a small radius it was done by hand and if it is really noticeable it is the new tooling. All of this took about six months."""

I hope that helps.
:)

Yes, the 112's were radiused during the 3 dot time frame and before the 110.
Not sure who did the kid's 112 as 2 dots were not mentioned to be done. Those done by hand will have the exterior edges done but not the thumb divot area, (to release the lock).
Those done after the tooling change at the factory will be radiused in the thumb divot. Likely in 1984 at the time of the 4 dots. DM

Not bad kid, and someone rounded the edges for you so its no so square and blocky.
JB

Yeah, I first thought this might just be a newer knife with an old 2-dot blade put on it, but after looking at it better, it's a home project, like you say. The left side front definitely looks different from the right front.

Yes, the first 112 I have that's radiused at the thumb divot is a 4-dot.

I just dug thru the dusty archives and I have six 3-dot 112 FGs and all are radiused, but none are radiused at the thumb divot.

None of my non-FG 3-dot 112s are radiused at all.......they're all nice and squared-off and bricky. As I recall, this is pretty much a pattern with the 3-dot 112s.

All of which causes me to believe the 3-dot FGs came along very late and probably it was the 4-dots that first got the new tooling.

As with all things Buck......info subject to change without notice.

For play store which is for android. Didn't look at others.

Yes, part of the problem we have with photos is that some are using phones and some are using computers and some phones work differently so what works for one may not work for another.
I guess we just have to keep on trying.
:)

Got it fingers crossed but i loaded imgur and i cant get anything bon pictures? I use a iphone 7 plus

Wish i could post pictures? So frustrating. This crap should be made real easy to do. On my line app i just choose a picture from my library ir take one and post. Saves a ton of typing for sure.
