I know that you can find some real stinkers on ebay, but there are some deals to be had if you take the time to watch the auctions and are lucky.

So what has been some of your better deals or down right steals you've gotten on the bay?

The ones that really come to mind for me were both bumps.
I picked up a Spec Bump from a seller that neglected to put a picture up, the discription was kind of vague, but it did list S30v steel. I took a chance because they had good feedback and picked up a NIB Spec Bump for $65 Shipped.

The other one was just the other day. I had done a Kershaw search and had just switch the setting to "ending soonest". The first thing on the list was a Aluminum Speed Bump that had 25 second left on the auction. I managed to get it for $38 shipped.

I wouldn't really class these as steals, but they're certainly deals.

So come on someone, show me up. :D

Kershaw 25th Anniversary knife (the really rare ones) for $180 ish ( I don't remember exactly) plus I had a 15% off coupon :p

I have no clue what it is worth b/c you see them so rarely, but, IIRC they were about $400 when new and there are only about 200. It has an ATS-34 blade that was hand finished by either KO or Tom Mayo, polished G10 scales, Ti liners and bolsters.

Another one went for about $300 a couple of weeks later. The last one I saw was on the KO forum and the guy had it listed for something like $1000 but it hasn't sold..... so, like I said, who the heck knows what is worth. However, I do feel like it was a steal and I do count it as one of my 2 "grail" knives and plan to keep it until the day I die.

In case anyone cares or can help me out......the other "grail" is a Prototype Spec Bump with polished scales and a ZDP blade. I let a prototype with a black CPM154CM blade and polised scales get away a few years ago..... still kicking myself for being so stupid. :o

NIB, Spyderco SuperHawk for 137.50.
NIB, Collector numbered Spyderco Shabaria for 137.30
NIB, Collector numbered Spyderco D'Allara for 66.00
NIB, Spyderco Ti ATR for 167.50
NIB, Collector numbered Spyderco Ocelot for 86.00
NIB, Collector numbered Spyderco F/G Manix for 132.00
NIB, Spyderco Large Persian for 167.50
NIB, Spyderco CPM-440 serrated Military, with 3 screw chrome clip for 77.50
NIB, Spyderco Phoenix for 145.50
There's been many more decent deals I've got but those sorta stick out as being a bit better than I'd thought I'd get and all was on NR auctions, no Buy it now.

A while back, I got a ZT302 for $150 shipped from a noob seller. Not exactly a "steal", but I've rarely seen one go for that little.

Just picked up my first Sebbie (LH) for $255 shipped. Again, not a steal, but a hard price to beat elsewhere.

I used to think that I'd find a ton of hidden deals on "Spiderco" (sic), but apparently all of you know this trick too 'cause they always get bid up to normal price!

A few years back I was the only bidder on a Heafner custom fixed blade.

I've probably seen more bad deals on eBay that great ones. I can't count how many times I dropped out of a bidding war once the auction price exceeded the on-line retail cost for the same item.

I think the best deal I've gotten on eBay recently was a Spyderco Hollsum Dayhiker (MSRP $239, typical on-line cost $159+) that I picked up for $120 plus free shipping. :D

I was able to score 4 different lots of Vic knives that were confiscated by the TSA a few years back - all total for around $32 (including shipping).

It absolutely sucked that they were confiscated, but better they end up in the hands of someone who appreciated them. Not all were in great shape - some had broken tips, some had cracked scales.

I venture to guess it was around 40-45 knives total.

Everything else ends up becoming a bidders war and the price sold well exceeds what I am willing to pay.

Looking at the knives and prices posted above, I think I'd do better if I could get Jill off the Bay. :D

I did get a Spyderco ATR stainless for $79.

I had been bidding on some Shun Elite kitchen knives, but then I became suspicious of the seller, despite his good feedback. I read about counterfeit knives on the Bay, like Shun and Global and Extrema Ratio, and decided that too good a deal really was too good.

Picked up a BNIB Spyderco Dragonfly SE

Already have one but the bids were so low I just had to snag it.

:slaps forehead: How could I forget -- I won a Kershaw R.A.M. for $27.99 shipped recently. I put a set of dobson custom tulipwood scales on it, and it is SWEET.

When I was first getting back into knives 2-3 years ago, I recognized a Buck Rush listed as a "Buck Stainless Knive" and got it for $5 shipped. :D

You never know it's really funny, sometimes a knife will not bring nearly as much as it will a week later, or vice versa. Discontinued models will set there and not bring much more than they discounted at. But, as soon as they start to dry up they spring up fast.
ATR in SS jumped way up here recently and are going for 150 and up NIB. Ti are up too and commonly bring 270-350 depending on the blade type.
Everything I listed above was a better deal than I generally see on those knives. I'm slowing down and not buying nearly as many Spydercos as I did the past year.

I like Traditional knives mainly but do have some Spydies and a much liked BM Mini Grip, all Bay bought. Generally, I've been pleased to very pleased by my trips to the Bay.Several sellers I've stuck with and apart from one shyster,I've not been ripped off,got the money back but it was unpleasant. I don't live in the USA so the Bay is my knifeline and I've found international sales to be no problem so far.

Recent excellent buy Schatt&Morgan English Jack 62 dollars shipped.

I picked up a vintage 1966 Puma Bowie in the original carbon steel for $100.

A custom sodbuster for $10 another time.

Scored a BNIB VG-10 Caly 3 for sixty bucks. Not a blade, but nabbed a Surefire LED P6 for fifty bucks.

My recent deal I got was a Hibben Kenpo Karate, the first style with not a mark on it and the sheath for $35.99. The seller had it listed as a hunting knife and said it was from her dad's estate. No one else even bid on it.

I don't know if it is just me, but I have noticed that prices of new in box collectible/discontinued knives on eBay have skyrocketed in the past couple of months.
Even SS ATRs now fetch more than 200$, and a FG Manix around 220$.
Same with Benchmades, especially if it is a LE.

There are tremendous deals to be found on ebay. Just the other day i won an auction for a NIB Spyderco Aqua Salt with plain edge and black handle for $60. There were two others and one went for $55 or something. Basically complete steals if you ask me. I should have tried for all of them lol!

Popular models get discontinued it doesn't take long for them to dry up and the prices go up correspondly.

i really "stole" a few good ones over the last 2 years myself. a DDR mad maxx for 259.00,a crawford perfigo for 250.00,a kershaw whisper plain edge for 90.00,& a crawford point guard for about 200.00......
