Now, I'm not a Case expert like some of you... did I make a decent purchase here? Am I correct in assuming the blades aren't SS as there is no "SS" mark?
I can't see if there are any dots, but based on the tang stamp it's definitely a pre 1980 knife, in which case I'm almost positive the blades are CV carbon steel.
They switched those to stainless in the 90's and yes would be marked SS and with satin finished blades if they were SS. That one is carbon steel, and BTW, the 640045R was/is made on contract by Camillus.
Nice looking knife. Utility and camping type knives have gotten my attention a little more lately. I'm not focusing on them, but pick up one now and then. I picked up a 2005, 62031 LHR (hawkbill electrician's knife) a month or two back. I was really pleased. Sharp, walk n talk, and the fit is excellent.
