eBay is killing me!

If you bid the highest you are willing to spend then you will have no problem.

Not really a rule I follow, but it's the truth. People wouldn't complain about getting sniped if they put the max they were willing to spend to begin with. It would simply be a case of "someone was willing to spend more than I did".

The point, though, is to acquire the item at the maximum you're willing to spend. Otherwise, why bother to bid at all?

Oftentimes, if that maximum is bid too early, someone will just top it at the last second or even earlier...it's an accepted ebay (and sniping) fact that your maximum is most effective if bid at the last possible second, giving others less time to respond. Someone is always willing to spend more than you are...the idea is to not give them time to do so before the auction ends...even automatic bidding and the other software helpers out there are only so fast.

Sometimes I do just say "Ah, the heck with it..." and bid my maximum early on a group of items, especially if I'm going to be busy around the times those auctions end...in these cases I win considerably less often than when sniping at the last second.

I get no respect.

I'd been watching these 2 Kershaws for a week now.

Last night, there was a multi-colored Boa up. Well, I waited until the last 15 seconds, took my time entering my bid, and went $ 35 higher that the previous bid. hEllbay said blah, blah, blah...You're the high bidder! WRONG! Lost it by 2 bucks.

Tonight, a TI/ZDP Leek was up (same seller btw). Again, waited until the last possible second. hEllbay said, with 9 seconds to go blah, blah, blah...You're the high bidder! WRONG! Lost it by 2 bucks AGAIN!

Got snaked twice, and neither by automated bids! ol, how many hEllbay accounts do you have? Next time I see either one of these again, I'm going $ 300 right up front...if someone wants it that bad, let em pay up for it!

Small consolation, as I do have a 1580MC, but I had hoped to snag this one to give to T-Man...for some reason I don't think they have one in their collection.

If one of the members that hangs here got them, congrats...now HOW DID YOU POST A BID IN UNDER 9 SECONDS?????

I just checked ebay and saw that I got beat out on both of these. I have been at the lake all weekend. I was the high bidder on the 1580mc until you bid it looks like. Dang snippers, oh well I just bid all I can afford. I did get lucky last week and win a new in box Spyderco UK Pen for $52.
