The buttcap doesn't look HI and there's on ID marks that I can see. What do you figure it is, 12 incher?
 
The Karda and Chakuma are definately not HI quality, and the scabbard dosent look anything recent.

My GRS that I bought from YVSA, early model that is unmarked, has a similar design...but buyer beware!
 
The engraving looks to be pretty good, but I don't know; it might be a gurkha house, or it might be a tourist knife, but for $10 which was the bid when I last checked it might be worth it. :D

The description says it has an 11" blade and is about 16" oal. That's not a bad size for a using khukuri.
I like the looks of the butt cap, similar to the CBCK that H.I. has made in the past.
It's pretty, but not real user friendly.
And the keeper is very unique, can't ever recall seeing one just like that before. The one on my as forged Chainpuri blade I finished is similar due to its construction.
I'm gonna have to come up with a name for that khukuri. I think Mongoose is very apt as it is very lithe and quick in the hand.
Perhaps even Ferret might work as I think it could be sneaky as well with its more 'tactical' (I'm beginning to really dislike that word) appearance.:)
 
I chuckle whenever I here somebody use the word tactical to describe a knife; I think it's because I sometimes get a kick out of watching the guys on the Home Shopping Network hock their crappy "knives" and sword-like-objects. :) Every other thing they show is a "tactical folder." Maybe they mean tactical fodder??? :)
 
...new buzzword goes into orbit. "Tactical" has long out lived any useful application it may have once had. The latest laugh was one of the militaria catalogs which features surplus clothing from overseas..."Tactical" long johns from the Swedish army. Maybe the trap door was velcroed, instead of buttons?

sorry to be thick, but what bit do you mean by the keeper?

I thought it was interesting-looking, at first I was wondering if perhaps it was one of the HI 'village' khuks. I like the buttcap myself, though I can see it getting snagged in a sleeve or something.

It still looks small in the person's hand though (perhaps he just has really big hands?).

It's described as coming with two 'matching small knives, one sharpened and one not' - sounds like a chakma and karda to me! ;) It's at a reasonable price too. I keep seeing the Indian tourist-rubbish kukris going up on eBay for starting prices round US$50! (at least I made my mistake with one of these for round $15).

since the original meaning is "arranged", that theory seems to make sense ;)

Ben the keeper is the, generally diamond shaped, piece that goes over the tang on top of the butt cap and that the tang is actually peened over on.
That way the hole in the butt cap doesn't have to be so perfect as sometimes a little larger hole is needed in the butt cap to better position it over the top of the handle with.
The keeper isn't quite as critical for appearance as it doesn't have to be right on so to speak.:)

Personally I wouldn't mind bidding on this khukuri, that is if I bidded on ebay. I may be fooled but it appears to be fairly decent.
At least it appears to have been well cared for if it has any age to it and if it's a new one artificially aged someone did an excellent job on it.:D
