Good morning all:
Does anyone know anything about this person that lists HI knives on eBay? It's their right to sell whatever, but I take offense at the BLEMS comment in his description, the so-called blems effect just looks, nothing to do with function!

Dick

Others have pointed him out before. He says guaranteed for life, but the HI guarantee only goes to the original buyer (unless purchased as a gift), so it wouldn't apply here. I wouldn't buy from him because his prices are high, and I want the money to go to Yangud, and the kamis. In addition to the obvious misinformation, of course. The blem comment I believe is just to show he is not trying to make a killing selling blems at full price. Don't worry about him too much. Anyone who gets an HI blade in their hand eventually ends up here. HIKV you know.

I won't worry, it just bothers me that so many people can mistake HI great products with the BLEM comment. Thanks.

Dick

I bought an 18" (actually 17") M43 from him at eBay auction for $127.50. The regular price is $145 and I had become frustrated waiting for one to turn up on DOTD. The M43 is a Bura and in fine condition.

You outbid me on that M43 Bill you donkey schlong.:D Good job. Its good to know it was you who got it. I was po'd that day though.

I was also going to bid on that M43...at least someone on the forum got it...so where are the pics? :D

I don't see anything wrong with his adds, and if they are new from HI the price is good. But I do wonder how he can sell at those prices.

Hmm, if he is paying full price to Yangdu for the 22" GRS he has on eBay now... and selling it for $155 BIN price, he isn't very smart. I'm wonder if they aren't DOTD khuks...

Interesting...

Alan

They're all UB marked, so we can kind of date them.

The auctions started on the eleventh. I took a quick scroll through the February DOTD's prior to this with an eye open for that GR, which ought to be pretty easy to spot due to the handle. I didn't see it. I would check January but I've got to boogie in a few minutes.

In other words, my research and a quarter are roughly equal to a trip to a pay toilet.

Perhaps an email to the seller would clear things up?

Actually, I take "donkey schlong" as a compliment. You know, "when you care enough to send the very best". What a small world! Sorry you were on the other end of my ultimate bid to win tactics. Tell you what I do when I really want an item because it might be useful to you sometime. First I try to get in a low bid really early on just so I get updates in "Items I'm Bidding On". Then I lay low until the final minutes of the auction so as not to arouse any competition anxiety (could call this the "snake in the grass" tactic). Finally, I enter the maximum bid I would actually be willing to pay and go to "Confirm Bid" where I sit with my finger on the trigger until 5 seconds before the auction ends. Ten, 9, 8, 7, 6, BANG!! Usually works unless someone really wanted it a lot worse than you did. Sounds pretty sleazy though, now that I've written it out. What can I say?:D

It's called 'sniping'.
Very interesting, bwray, I imagine many of us go sharking here and sniping on eBay.
There was a talibon I was all set up to snipe. My $1 bid was high right up until I had to visit the ER and the next day when I got home it had gone for $1.25 :(

5 seconds? Wow, man, that's cutting it awful close.

Hello guys, I see that my auctions are cause of "HI forum concern". Let me clear up a few things.

1) I verified with Yangdu, prior to starting my auctions, that the full HI warranty applied to my unused khukuris. Maybe I'm wrong here.. you guys call the shots at HI, not Yangdu? I believe I covered my bases.

2) I bought all of these Khuks on auction at full price. I wasn't aware of any "DOTD" until one of my buyers pointed it out. My auctions state correctly these were full-price items.

3) A few months ago, I bought a "blem" 18" AK with horn handle. The handle was so badly cracked that I sent it back to Yangdu. That qualifies as a negative experience. Companies that sell "blems" at a discount cheapen the value of all "non-blem" items. My khuks are not "blems" and I made that clear to any potential buyer.

Just a thought here guys.. rather than make incorrect assumptions, why not contact a seller directly?

Regards,
Bill

Donkey schlong???? Is that a compliment or an insult:confused:

LOL!!! :)

Yeah, I guess it would all depend on how one takes it, no pun intended ;)

If one is being called such a name because of one's own personal natural gift, then yes, it would most certainly be taken as a compliment.

On the other hand, there is a saying that goes something like.... "You are what you eat", in which case I would then not like to be referred to as a "Donkey Schlong"! LOL!!!! ;)

As for the ebay lister that mentions his HI knives as not being "blems", I have seen his listings. I don't believe he means it to be a put down of any sort. As already mentioned above by another poster, he probably just wants people to know that his knives are 1st quality, and not a lower priced "Blem" that is being sold as a first quality item.

Besides, the word "blem" itself (short for blemish or blemished) is pretty self explainatory. The word blemish/blemished is commonly and properly used to describe a superficial defect (affecting visual appearance only), not a word used to describe a defect that in some way compromises safety or function.

For a problem that may cause functional or safety issues, the better words to use would probably be "defect" or "defective".

Whitie, while I think it was bad form not to give you the benefit of the doubt, I think that you can understand our attachment to HI, Yangdu, and making sure that the people of Nepal get the fairest shake and most money possible. You might be a very good dealer with a high reputation. I know Ebay is full of them. I also know they are full of people bending the truth and flat out lying. Many of us feel that we have a duty to protect Mrs. Martino because she is so good to us.

We might tend to jump the gun a bit. I will apologize for that. From your few posts you seem like an ok guy. Your business with Yangdu is just that...your business. You are upset, and I can understand that. However, a reply post with questionable tact may be shooting yourself in the proverbial foot. The people that understand what a REAL khuk is are here. One thing that i will never apologize for is pointing out questionable second and third party dealers of HI stuff. I mean, Yangdu offers her products at great prices already with a full warranty. Also, Uncle Bill had said that the warranty does not transfer, so we were not shooting in the dark here. It had come from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I understand bulk deals have been and always probably will be made with HI and people that sell their stuff for a profit. Capitalism, it are good:thumbup:

So don't worry about it. If everything is on the up and up, don't sweat it:) However, bulldog protection by loyal HI customers helps keep Yangdu in the black. Best of luck to you, sir.

Whitey, my humble apologies for guestioning your ethics and business practices! My first impression was that you was attempting to make out that all HI knives were "blems". For that I stand corrected.
The end result are, the kami's of Nepal are benefiting from the sale of their product and the purchaser is getting the finest Khukuri knife on the market.
With all that said, may you be successful with your endeavor.

looks like "medbill" just scored the 20 inch AK (neem!) and the 22 inch GRS.

the prices were very tempty tempty, but didn't include about $15 in shipping/ins, and yangdu wasn't the person selling, so i was not very sharky at 10ish am EST, medbill was, so ... :)

it's interesting that the full warranty IS apparently included by Yangdu from a reseller, though i'd love to hear Yangdu say that, then i might be more tempted to buy something that doesn't come along in a DOTD. i AM still looking for two items in that range, and was tempted, just had concerns on warranty, and where my money is going. i can wait. my paychecks aren't in yet at any rate.

medbill, you'll have to tell us how your blades are when you get them. wednesday, probably end of week if you're lucky. nobody beats yangdu on shipping speed.
