Highest bidder pay EBAY fee

Is this something new?

First time I've seen it.

How much is it?

I saw it on a $4000 watch.

It was in the fine print.

Wow! That is a new one one me! I have never heard of charging the Ebay fees to the buyer.

I am sure that would hit most buyers by complete surprise. The fees typically are around 5 percent of the final value. For a $4000 watch, the buyer would be stuck with an extra $200!

I am not sure if that is even legal. I know you are not suposed to charge buyers extra for credit card fees, but Ebay fees may be different. A note to Eaby's Safeharbor seems in order.

It sounds like the dealer just made the reimbursement of his EBAY fees a part of his offer. I don't know whether he recieved any bids, but I am sure that kind of oddball language is likely to create problems for him. I hope he put the conditions in a very prominent place.

"Highest bidder pay EBAY fee, shipment and insurance are USD 50.00 worldwide by UPS, we can accept VISA and MC with 4% extra, fee we can ship only to the billing address."

This was at the bottom of the ad in fine print by someone from Switzerland.

I thought it was too good a deal on the watch.

This seller needs to relearn this term: "The cost of doing business":barf:

Sure, it's legit. But anyway you look at it it smacks of deceptivity. Fine print like this is NOT buyer/bidder friendly. Also passing along the C/Card fee sucks. Granted, all of these fees are pricey when added up, and if it's as good a deal as you mention, then it may STILL be worthy.

The seller loses valuable trust points with me.

That is against Ebay rules. If Ebay happens to see that they will email the seller and tell him to remove that from the listing or they will stop the auction. I tried to add paypal charges once and they emailed me and told me to remove it or else :)

E-Bay will not see this. They rely on the community to report them to http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/select-RS.html

But they only take action if it's strictly prohibited in their terms and conditions to use the site. I know for one charging credit card fee reimbursement is a big no-no.

Sounds like a Buyers Premium. A lot of auctions charge them. Everyone was not going to bid at them, but a lot of auction houses charge them. It makes it easier on the seller, but I just factor it in to the bid, so I bid less whatever the % is. J Bruce Voyles charges 10%. I have sold knives in his mail order Auctions and done very well.It just takes a long time to get paid.83 days on my last one.
