I just learned that my ebony Arkansas hunter, ordered at the Shepherd Hills event in September, is being shipped. Has anybody had one in hand, yet? The hunter design and ebony are just made for each other and look awesome together, IMO. This should be a killer production knife.

Let's place some comments on here of your impressions if you receive one or handle one.

(Does 'killer' work as a folksy lexicon, Elliott??) ;)

It "worked" for Jerry Lee Lewis so I guess it's pretty folksy. ;)

Lookin' forward to seeing your new hunter, Joe.

Lookin' forward to seeing that one when you get it Joe. Fall in the Ozarks is a good place for an Arkansas Hunter. :) ;)

The original Arkansas Hunter came in Ebony. It's as traditional as it gets!
There are two in this Family portrait.

Two's better than one, Johnnie!
[BTW, I think the Ebony's been released;)]

The Arkansas Hunter in Ebony from Case should look real sweet, I don't know if this question has been asked before, does anyone know why the Case knife was not made as a lockback compared to the original?

Ford, I couldn't agree more! The Ozarks and knives go well together this time of year.

An Arkansas Hunter, a Bose, a Cover, a Davis, an Erickson....you can run right down the alphabet! My favorite time of year. Love being out in the woods in the fall, and having a traditional Arkansas Hunter along should work swell.

Charlie, love that picture! There is something about the angled bolsters, shield, size of the knife and ebony that just seem to really work on this design. Of course, ivory wouldn't be bad, either! ;) :D

Thanks for sharing those!

I believe I read a comment the collaborators decided not to to implement the lockback to keep the pattern simpler. I remember reading the reason, but don't recall the exact wording.

I think it is cost, Rusty. Fitting a locking knife in semi-production is time consuming. Probably brought them over their target budget.

Thanks for your answers thawk and waynorth, It's definately one of my favorite patterns of late, taking my time in picking one of the bone models out, trying to make sure the jigging is complete across the handle, some seem to be hafted down a bit to much.

Charlie, I think we could call this pattern the "waynorth hunter" instead.
Great picture

The Arkansas 'Waynorth' Hunter came today. Call me impressed. This is really a super knife. Tony did Case right on designing this one. I am not a lockback fan, so I am glad that was left out of the reproduction. For a production knife, the fit and finish on this are very nice. Great walk and talk. Centered blade. Has a great edge on it, this baby is sharp. Glad to see the use of CM 154. If there is one small complaint, it would be the large nail nick. I know it is a large blade, but this nick would be large for Charles Barkley! :D

If you are looking for a large folder, hard to go wrong here.

I will try to, but may be a day or two. I rubbed some wax over the ebony, polished up the steel, and it is sitting pretty. Just needs a good photographer with some time. :D

Thanks, Charlie.

Wow Canineforge, that is gorgeous! Thank you for posting those pictures. I like every single thing about that knife. The design is very sophisticated, it has a great flow- with a pleasing composition of curves and angles. 154CM is my favorite steel. Ebony is one of my favorite handle materials, I like slanted bolsters, I love bomb shields, I love crisply swedged clip blades- that's close to perfect.
