So a friend of mine is making a knife and wants to use ebony for the handle. Thing is, neither he nor I can find any. Anyone here know where we could get some? Preferrably in Canada, but we'll get it from the U.S. if possible. Thanks in advanced!

Check eBay. Search on "ebony knife scale". You'll find plenty.

You shouldn't breathe in any ebony dust bro. Wear your respirator!

Mr flemming,
The knife I was working on today has ebony bolsters. This particular ebony came from ebay and is without question the BLACKEST ebony I have ever seen. I believe the name was incarssia ebony. I am not sure of the spelling, and do not know much about it and haven't used it enough to know if I like it, but I know I love the color! Generallly I use Gabon ebony, but this stuff is just so much blacker that I had to try it. Just something to think about. Also it is more expensive but not alot.

In my limited experience, African blackwood looks about the same and is much easier to work with.
ebony can be very brittle like snakewood and ironwood.
