Hey guys, it's been a little while since I've visited over here but just so you know, my BK24 has been my constant companion at work since I bought it. I originally had the black zytel scales on it and then decide to make my own out of wood. I started with some ipe that my uncle gave me and I've been pretty happy with how that turned out

However, my original plan was to put ebony scales on it but I just used what I had. Well, the wife and I stopped by Mann Tool today and they have a sweet selection of exotic woods. I just happened to find a 1X12 inch block of ebony and the wheels started turning.

So, I popped the ipe scales off and shaped up some new ones from my new peice of ebony. I'm SOOO much happier with these. It just feels like I'm complete now. And it matches the sheath better too. I hope you likey

Yep I love the 24, this is superb, thats 3 beauties I've seen here this week. Nice man, very nice.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I've started rebuilding some slipjoints and now I have plenty of ebony to work with. And my wife is going to get some nice ear rings too. :)

Very nice! It does indeed go well with the sheath you posted about making awhile back.

Gonna try scales for my 24 as well.

It's really not that hard. Of coars it helps if you have a belt sander, band saw and drill press but it can be done without all that

That is a great looking knife there. Beautifully done.

Great job! What's the story on the sheath?

I started doing leather work about a year ago out of nessecity. I'm left handed and basically the only way to get a left sheath is to have a custom one made or to do it yourself. My uncle does his own leather work as well and got me into it when I decided to make my first sheath for a buck 110. But I like to carry a small fixed blade at work in the warehouse. It's just easier to work with a fixed knife than a folder.
When I got my 24, I carried it for a few days with the stock sheath and some fancy paracord wrap, but I just like a leather sheath better. I dyed it black when I made it because I had the black zytel handles and I wanted it to match. I really wasn't planning to put permanent scales on it but it just kind of happened. My uncle gave me a how that he was building out of ipe that broke. He told me I could make some guitar picks or knife scales from it. So originally, I made them from the ipe. They held up very well but in my mind I new that I wanted ebony. It just looks and feels classy, I guess.
So, that's my story. I really appreciate all of the kind words, everyone. It was a fun project and now I feel like I have my holy grail fixed blade. Of coarse, a BK10 would be nice......:)
