Echelon or Skyline?

That purple looks awesome! Is that your own handy-work or a limited production run? I heard of a purple Echelon before, but I didn't know if it was a custom job or a limited run.

That pretty little knife would be my own doing. :) A little RIT dye, a little heat on the stove, and a little time and you too can have your own custom colored Echelon. :D

The Echelon, is too broad and the speedsafe just didn't work as well on that model. I was sorely disappointed because I was looking forward to using it a lot. Its just going to be a part of my collection for now.

I'm one of the few that doesn't like the Skyline very much, but if I had to tell you which to pick out of the two. I'd go with the Skyline.

Also the Brown/Black LE Skyline has some QC issues with the blade not being central. Mine touches the non-locking scale, adjusting the pivot has affected the opening smoothness.

I just don't like the Skyline much, tbh. Just the way it looks, bugs me for some reason. Especially the thumbstuds AND flipper combination.

LOVE the fixed blade though! Might pick one up.

Very disappointed.

Not sure if this one was returned to Amazon already, but this knife is horrible.

The scales came very dirty, and there was tons of black gritty crap around the pivot, making a horrible grinding noise/feel when opening and closing.

Returning it ASAP. My Tremors are higher quality than this, it actually kind of turns me off of USA made knives.

If you bought it from Amazon, then you should be able to just get a direct replacement. I've done that a couple times already. They ship out a new item, you have a month to send back the defective one.

I returned a Tremor like that through Amazon no problem with the direct replacement that was way easy to do..They also gave me 5 bucks off my next amazon purchase

The replacement is much better, however it still makes a slight grinding noise when opening/closing at the pivot...

I have no doubt the original knife I recieved was used.

Overall happy with the knife.

You're not the only one, my Echelon came dirty from Amazon too. Amazon is the wrong place to buy Kershaw knives, there's a reason their prices are so low.....their knives are either used or returned stuff. I got a Cryo and original Leek from there too and both look used and gritty.

I'm really pissed off, I was a sucker for the low price. Never again!

While I get all my ZTs now from Dave (kershawguy), I can't say that your assessment of Amazon is accurate. I've gotten an Echelon, my Knockouts (2), a Piston, and 2 Skylines from Amazon. All were new, all were fine. They don't list used knives as new, and if you get a defective one, that's likely an accident. As for them being dirty, I've noticed that several Kershaws have some kind of grit out of the box. The blades are almost always oiled, and debris from manufacturing has the potential to get into/onto the knife before packaging. This is not to do with Amazon, it's just how it goes.

If you're finding all your knives from Amazon are of a very low price, and are then all showing up like they're used, then it's likely that you're not paying proper attention to the product details and are instead buying a used/refurbed piece.

I don't think there's a conspiracy at Amazon to send used items, I think I just got a lemon.

I've gotten all my other knives from Amazon (Spyderco and Kershaw), and they've been fine.

I'll just disassemble and clean well.

Maybe dye it later. ;)

My skyline has awesome action but the echelon is all about style,
I waited so long for the Echelon that when it came, despite it being worthy of a return to Amazon ,I went ahead and kept it ,just got used to it.:loyal:

I just noticed the torsion bar rattles/moves a LOT when it's open.

Is that supposed to happen?

It is not "supposed" to happen, but it won't hurt anything either. A little viscous grease in the channel will hold it in place.

I vote Skyline all the way. Love my skyline's. I've heard too many mixed reviews on the Echelon

After I took it apart and de-assisted it, I love it.

I still think my value Kershaws are higher quality overall, though.

Love the steel though, it slices boxes, and just needs a few swipes on fine stones to be razor sharp again.

I really reccomend it.
