Eco-Lite 110

I hate you guys.....

I just ordered me a red one! :p

Ok. So do we know if this 110 is BOS heat treated for real? I mean, I have a Vantage Select and a Vantage Pro. Now both are supposed to be Paul Bos heat treated, but only the Pro is stamped/etched BOS. Why?

So, I guess I'm wondering if the Vantage Select (and the new EcoLite 110) are really BOS heat treated or if they are just "produced in the factory under the watchful eye of Paul Bos?"

In my mind, if you have something that is really the real deal, wouldn't you stamp/etch it so that everyone would know it to be the case?

They never put the BOS symbol on the regular production 420HC blades. Bos works for Buck, and does other makers heat treating on the side. The custom makers who seek a Bos heat treat are actually seeking a BUCK knives heat treatment. So there is no real point in marking them, since Bos's formula is Buck's formula.

Thanks for the info.

And not to be disrespectful, but following the logic of your post, I wonder why you think they need to mark ANY knives period, if there's "no real point in marking them" since a Bos heat treat is really a BUCK knives heat treat...

Paul Bos puts his symbol on all of the premium steels.

Probably a logistical thing about not putting on all production knives.

Paul Bos oversees our entire heat treat department, all metals including the 420HC. Paul finalizes every heat treat "recipe" or process for each steel and he does this through science, a lifetime of previous experience and trial and error. He trained the folks and they follow those processes, checking and carefully documenting those results at key stages to make sure the metal is taking the previous stage correctly (heat treat is a 3 stage process with high heat, followed by extreme cold, followed by medium heat).

Buck has invested in state of the art equipment and is one of the only US companies to still do our own heat treating because we do not trust anyone else to do it for us. We are the only company to consistently get the hardness we need out of 420HC so you get the wonderful corrossion resistance that comes naturally in the steel with enough hardness (without brittleness) to perform and hold an edge long enough to uphold Buck's reputation.

We decided not to mark the 420HC blades with the Bos flame so it would be a more special designation for the higher end custom steels but please know that the 420HC is heat treated under Paul's guidance.

Wow. That is a *fine* looking knife. I might need a second 110 now. I second the idea of a white one...

I didn't realize they were out of stock when I ordered mine, but it was shipped today. Can't wait!

Anybody know who makes a nice 110 horizontal sheath? (.....but not spendy?)

Cool! Good to know.

Still, it would be nice to have a leather horizontal sheath for my 111.

10-4, not sure I would trust the velcro of the nylon sheaths with horizontal carry on the heavier 110 or 111 either, especially after awhile!

Hmm...mine came (today) with a button-snap sheath, no velcro.

Still, the sheath is so tight, I just don't see any way to use the horizontal loops at all.

But I like the knife. Gonna make a good user.
