Who is Ed Ricketts? Is he any relation to the Ed Ricketts of John Steinbeck fame?

Hoodoo

The low, hoarse purr of the whirling stone—the light-press’d blade,
Diffusing, dropping, sideways-darting, in tiny showers of gold,
Sparkles from the wheel.

Walt Whitman

Richard,
Thanks for the kind words.

Hoodoo,
Gee, I've been found out. Whatever else your accomplishments, you must be a literary gent.
For those who haven't read that much Steinbeck: The interesting character Doc plays a major role in two novels, Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, both personal favorites. The character was modeled after a real life (whatever that is) buddy of Steinbeck's named Ed Ricketts. I adopted it as my nom de net.
I am no blood kin that I know of, but quite possibly something of a kindred spirit, since I liked Doc so much.

To the forums at large: I do try to deal as I would like to be dealt with. But I freely confess I'm not always as quick to respond as some, and some people seem to have widely different expectations about reasonable response time. I'd ask everyone to be patient with me and each other.
Part of the problem (if such it be)is simply that days sometimes pass with me having little or no opportunity to get on the net. Also, while the rest of you may be living in an ever-so-modern world, I still live and think and act...on pony express time. Not net speed, hyperspeed, or even close. You got a neanderthal at the keyboard
here, folks.
Just this am my wife was teasing me, she noticed I'm still banging away at the keyboard like I used to with our old balky manual typewriter. I said she should consider herself lucky I'm not using a club.
I consider myself doing good to know how to build a fire and use metal tools, so please bear with me as we rush headlong into this brave new world. "Ed Ricketts"
