Saw Ed's prototype at the OKCA knife show this weekend, and it is a winning collaboration, IMO. I will be getting one for sure.

Ed's proto had a damascus blade and rubber grips. What a slicer/chopper!

OK I understand and respect Spyderco's policy about not posting pics of prototypes, but.....

THESE CONTINUOUS PICLESS POSTS ABOUT THIS KNIFE ARE KILLING ME!!!!!  :D

There, I feel better now. :(

How's about this. can somebody DRAW a rough outline of the blade? i mean we don't need a masterpiece but even a rough sketch would help.

It would be deleted the second it was posted. There are reasons why it isn't being posted. If you want to potentially kill the project, then go ahead and posts pics or drawings before Spyderco is ready to release images.

Thanx Carlos.

It has become such an issue that we are considering not showing protos at shows anymore.

bah, dammit. stop with the teasing. there's shouldn't be any issues with privacy if a knife is released to the public - that's a de facto reveal right there. the people want PICS!!!!

can you hear the fans chanting?

ps - sal, you are the man. pls send your son & staff yet more praise from a very happy customer about the MANIX.

What a bummer, but understandable nonetheless. But maybe a some hint as to a (very tentative) realize date? I mean, something as rough as this year or next year?

We plan to make it in Golden.
We plan to make it from a Crucible steel.
Ed will control and oversee grinding and geometry.
We will use Boltaron (high line Kydex) for the sheath.
We're still at odds as to what to make the handle out of.
We'd like to make it this year.
We're currently making a proto out of the selected steel.

If you want to see the protos, I'm sorry, but you'll have to go to a show where we can discuss the design and I can get your input, which is why we show them at shows.

Your kind understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

I totally understand sal's hesistation of releasing prototype pics, I think it's a good thing: Releasing a model design means the model must appear on the market quickly otherwise some other manufactures will put up their "new" models utilizing the idea. Spyderco do not want to release prototype pics because Sal still wants to take his time to make the design even better. Way to go, Sal.

This is a GREAT knife, vaguely "kukuri-ish", with an excellent guard. Minor handle redesign needed, but still a great knife already. I'm sure it'll be even better when presented.

Hi Geode,

Actually Ed's still refining the model. Ed wanted some changes to add strength in some areas after the last testing. This made the first proto blades obsolete.

Ed is also still experimenting with steels. He's going to put his name on it and he's known for his performance steels and geometry's, so I guess he's going to be anal about it. ;)

I wouldn't have it any other way. :p

I have the latest piece to show at the SHOT show. Once Ed says "go" and which way to go, we'll go.

We will also have a prototype of a 7" fixed blade of Ed's design at the SHOT show. H1.
