Gents,

Sell me/Tell me if it makes sense to buy a zaan (the Wilson combat version) for carry in an office setting with dress slacks. For background info I'm a big guy who likes a larger size blade just haven't found the most comfortable setup that I can roll with - currently rotating an xm24, xm18 (3.5), zt 0560 and 0550 with a hawk clip on it. Does a zaan make sense? Does it open as easily as the 550 via thumb stud? Opinions welcome and thanks in advance.

Having to wear slacks makes a difference in what you carry brother - I'm not familiar with the zaan/it's clip/or how it carries so I'm going for opinions. Definitely not trying to "coordinate accessories".

I find my zaan to be the absolute perfect large folder for edc in my slacks. Its thin and flat so it sits in my pocket discretely and comfortably. At the same time its heavy (5 ounces) but not too heavy that it swings around and bashes against my leg. I do find it difficult to pull out the aggressive looking zaan blade to use in an office setting.

Have you considered an Al Mar Ultralight?

I think you and your fellow office-workers would be happier if you carried a small Sebenza. I have small and large Sebs and a Zaan. I prefer to carry a large Sebbie, but not needed for office work.
IMO
Enjoy 'em all,

If you can carry the 560, you can carry a Zaan.

It is lighter in weight than your 560 (which is about 5.8 oz.). The Zaan's clip is great but not as deep-pocket as the 560s. The Zaan opens and closes smoothly.

That said, I wouldn't need anything of that size in an office. YMMV. I agree that for most office workers, a small Seb would be a better choice.

Why do you think his office-workers would be happier? Why does it matter to the OP what they think, especially if he already carries previously stated knives? Joe Bob at the office wouldn't know the difference between a large and small Sebenza anyways.

It matters if the company regulation prohibit weapons without being specific. What he carries might be and can be turned against him in the power struggle of office politics.

Needless to say, the Gentleman Folder is what comes out in office. Used to be a Sanrenmu 763, but some people still freaks out about it, even though it's small.

Add: the Zaan looks like the Enlan EL08 while Sebenza will be like EL02. Different enough for the office folks.

The Zann is lighter then the XM 24. It Carrys great.
I barely notice its there and have to check from time to time just to make sure. Its a very solid and well recommended folder.

You'll love it.

HaHa! To true

I have no problem with the Zaan in tux pants or wool slacks. I carry it IN the pocket, not on the clip.

I say go for it, Love my Zaan, I'm still trying to figure out if I like it more than a Sebenza but I can tell you mines not going anywhere, its a keeper. Also the clips on CRK's are the best I've seen and for it's size it carries very well. I too like bigger folders for edc and the Umnm is about perfect or at least till my Sebenza 25 gets here:eek:

I'm leaning toward just going for it - does anyone have a hard time with the thumb stud while one hand opening? I'm looking for zt550 ease of use...

Pardon the bad cell phone pic, I'm at work.

Here's a Zaan in my work slacks. It carries fine, of course the lighter in color the slacks, the better.

But I carry mine everyday like this. When you're the boss, you can.:p

It depends on the knife with ease of opening. I've had 3 over the last few years. The first 2 would fly open. This last one is a slower more deliberate opening, but you can thumb flick it if you want to. The detent seems stronger on the new one also.

Abosolutely. The Zaan and the Sebenza are pretty thin and light considering the size. I carry a Zaan with slacks all the time. If you wear gray salcks you cant even see it.
