EDC and music

What a great thread! I'm kinda in Riverwarrior's, um, boat: Maiden, yes, and up the irons! Dio, Savatage, glam-shredders like Dokken, even some metal-pop like Evanescence and Seether. I also listen to a lot of orchestral movie soundtracks (cue "Imperial March" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark"), but my all-time favorite is Basil Poledouris's "Conan the Barbarian." It rocks me out of my boots harder than Maiden does.

EDC rotation: AK-47, BM 950, BM 745, Para1, Native5. I guess they do kinda represent the metal-to-orchestra music spectrum. Huh.

P.S. I'm assuming we're not talking about fixed blades (if we are, then ... that's even more fun!). But I live in the damn SF Bay Area, where "EDC" means, at most, a folder. If you guys live in areas where EDC can mean "fixed blade," then I take my hat off to you ... and I'm kinda jealous. :o

If restricted to folders, I will nominate Bob Dylan ("Don't Think Twice") as he goes ramblin' down that road with my lock back Schrade folder in his jeans.

If fixed blades are included, I will choose my Tramontina machete and the Melanesian Pidgin song "Mere, Mere" by O-shen. O-shen is a white man born of missionary parents in Papua New Guinea. O-shen was raised in the village and grew up living as a local boy using a machete toclear brush and plant crops.

:cool:Either combination of knife and song brings back memories for me.

Disclaimer: I am a music snob-nerd.

I prefer instrumentally and emotionally complex sub-genres of black metal, shoe-gaze, black-gaze, prog/post rock, and European folk music.

Favorites: Alcest, Amesoeurs, Les Discrets, Opeth, Agalloch, Arcturus, Enslaved, Bathory, Gorgoroth, Watain, Wolves in the Throne Room, Wardruna, Drudkh, Ne Obliviscaris, Stolen Babies, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Kansas, and the Moody Blues.

If I had to equate my most common EDCs to music, I'd select:

(1) CRK Sebenza 21 CF (Primary EDC): Amesoeurs - Les Ruches Malades [dark, sleek, obscure, functional, strong, and beautiful]

(2) Spyderco Stretch (Primary "Beater" EDC): Enslaved - Thoughts Like Hammer [simple but complex, sleek, common but rare, strong, and unique]

(3) Benchmade 710 (M390) (Primary "Outdoor Folder") - Watain - They Rode On [SHTF, unapologetic, solitary, underrated, outdoorish]

Carried my Winkler belt knife today and past the long commute with the Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs, and a buddy's old band, UVR.
