This fall I'll be deploying to South America for four fun filled drug hunting months. :) Rather then take me Sebenza along, I was planning to buy a slightly less expensive (say $200) EDC to carry around. I don't plan on running around the jungle, more just the usual reasons to carry a knife. Current thought is a SOG Vision, bit was wondering ig anyone had any other ideas. My thoughts:

folder, 3-4 inches, one handed opening, and thats about it. :) No Spyderco, I'm one of those rare guys who doesn't like the feel of them. :) Thanks.

Emerson makes some great knives in your price range and if you shop around, you can find some great deals. All have great ergos. The '11 is large (4.1" blade and feels large in my hand). The Mini-Commander is a great EDC, but may be a bit small for some. The CQC-10 is my favorite. It handles well and works well for everything. I know others prefer the Commander, '8, '12, or '15. I haven't had the opportunity to handle any of those, yet. They are very easy to disassemble and clean or adjust when necessary. The wave is great for one-handed opening. Just my .02, hope it helps.

kershaw spec bump. about $200, but you can find them cheaper just by looking arounf. dont think they get much cheaper than $150

Just bought one of the Zero Tolerance folders, and man it is one hech of a knife. If you break it, you need a strong fix blade. I think I like it almost as good as my sebenza. It opens smooth as silk, and locks perfect. I have a Blackhawk folder that I want to sell, that is just as good.

I agree with the benchmade 710 best EDC made IMO. Have carried mine every day for the past 4 years.

I highly recommend the Spyderco Manix or Mini-Manix. The Mini Manix is not so mini.

Hmm, what about SS Byrd Cara Cara ($20) and SOG Field Pup ($40) (fixed blade - as you can see:))?

Or Spyderco (I read your post but it's so good I have to mention it) CF Military?

Or BM Gravitator ($100)? It's discontinued but still available.

Emerson has a size and blade shape for just about everyone. I'm a fan of the CQC-7A and the Mini Commander.

Id reccomend either the 630 skirmish or kershaws spec bump in s30v... try ebay for both of them. Skirmish usually goes for 150ish and the spec bump sells for 100ish

I dunno.. i saw a video made by some polish guy on youtube.. he put some dirt in the axis lock of a griptillian and it opened, then he did the same thing with a stick. Im not a big fan of the Axis, too much hidden machinery.

I would suggest the following:
A Spyderco Manix or Mini Manix or a Spyderco Military. Both are excellent and tough knives.

Any Emerson will do.

In particular you might like a 7, 8, 10 or a 15. You can even find them for far less than $200.
