edc Benchmade, Spyderco why??????????

They both stand behind a great product. I happen to have more Spydie's but that's because I enjoy simplicity.

Also keep in mind the the majority of people on this forum is from the USA.
And some people on this forum think that if it says "Made in USA" it will give the knife some magical abilities that will make it better...;)

They are mentioned because they make great value knives. Also, another manufacturer that gets mentioned frequently and makes great knives at great prices is Kershaw. As far as I'm concerned, Kershaw, Spyderco, and Benchmade are the three best production manufacturers, and that's why you mainly see Kershaw, Spyderco, and Benchmade knives mentioned here.

for the OP it get's worse. Spyderco's new tenacious is a category killer IMO. I've not seen anything close for the money maybe even twice the money.

I think these two companies offer a full line, from entry level (Think Griptilian, Delica, Native, etc) through high end (D2, S90V, S30V, etc). Both have imported value lines as well. Its one stop shopping with high quality and lots of options in terms of locks and opening systems.

because as far as I can tell, they make some damn good knives. (don't forget kershaw though!) especially at a price you can beat up (barring sebbies, most $200+ knives aren't EDCd). Kershaw's tend to run a little more expensive than spydies, but that's pretty much arbitrary. (though once the skyline is out, spydie better watch their back! High quality AO for $25!) For your basic manual folder, spyderco is generally considered the way to go, and for an AO folder, kershaw takes the cake. I'm not quite sure where benchmade fits in, but they make some damn good knives, and their axis lock has quite the reputation.

Spyderco and the lower priced BM offer a good value in knives. The higher dollar BM are priced well above the good value level and are riding on the brand name. When it comes to durable working knives, I look to Spyderco and above all else, Kershaw. The Griptillion IMO is by far the best value from BM IMO.

I like both Benchmade and Spyderco, and settled on Benchmade as my main source for EDC knives. To me, it's a combination of high quality and affordability. You can get an AXIS Grip for around $60 that beats the pants off others at that price range.
And if you do want to spend more and get higher quality, look at their HK line, or go one step more and get a Bradley Alias in ANY flavor.
Combine their knives with regularly superb customer service, and it's hard to beat Benchmade's offerings.
