EDC carry for BK17

After four months or so of packing my 17, here's how I carry mine.

AZWelke kydex, horizontal, just to the left of my belt buckle, handle pointed to the right. It's hidden, accessible to either hand, and comfortable.

Skystorm Leather Belt Sheath. Plain and simple, no frills, for field carry. Love it.

Skystorm Leather Pocket Sheath. I got this one last week, and I freaking love it. This goes with old W.E. Fairbairn's sneaky pocket carry technique that he used to employ with his famous dagger. You can be talking to someone two feet away and have your knife already in hand with no one the wiser. Skystorm cuts the sheath to give you plenty of handle to grab, too. Oddly enough, I used the 17 with this pocket sheath to save myself from a dog attack last weekend, so I know the technique is valid from a self defense standpoint.

Anyway, those are my current faves for EDC of a 17.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been working this over in my mind while doing house work (my day off), and came to the same place you described. It seems the most practical, efficient, and comfortable. Given that you've already played with the concept a lot, I'll just copy success if that's alright.

BTW, is your username in any way connected with a retired gentleman from SLC? :)

LOL yes, but just a tribute.

Thanks for the reply and the photos Wasatchdan. Your photos are from different angles than the mfg's photos, which really helps. :)

BTW, dog attacks are one of my justifications for carrying a fixed blade of this approximate size. While I have no problems shooting a dog that's attacking me, there are circumstances where I might prefer to defend myself with a knife instead.

I like the "scout carry" option and am working on some new sheaths for that style but I made one for a member here that came out really nice (imo & his) but I like the IWB option too.

I don't have any good pictures of it in use but you can get the general idea: (also not the 17 but still a tweener)

Here you can see how a belt attaches and there's no flex so it really stays put:

You can also carry a taco sheath IWB with a strap or a fixed Kydex belt-loop (17 pictured):

Now for the hardware I've only got pictures of an ESEE-4 so just picture these attachments on the above 17 sheath:

Hope this helps,

scout at 10, 11 o'clock edge facing down for blades smaller than 5 inches, hip carry for blades over 6 inches, at least that's what works for me but obviously the bigger blades are not concealed. I've been messing lately adding leather straps to my kydex and they work great but don't have any pics right now, shame on me.

Depending on what I've been wearing, I've been carrying the 17 EDC for the most part. I need to get some kydex or leather for IWB carry.

For a while I was using the stock sheath in an inverted vertical carry on my braces under my vest. Most folks never even knew it was there until I pulled it out. It was a GREAT place for me. I've also carried scout in the MOB which, while it didn't bug me (I'm used to it) I can see how others may think it would be uncomfortable.

To alleviate a lot of tension when carrying the 17 on my braces, I tend to also carry a 11/4 around my neck which was just as accessible and sometimes a bit wiser to use. Just as an idea if you're worried about how something looks, you might want to consider that as well.
