There are quite a few legitimate requests for recs of an edc for a reasonable price. The responses usually mention, quite legitimately, the popular knifemakers. So, by way of contrast, and to foster creativity, I propose the following query:

Someone is looking for an edc folder. Assume one-handed opening, pocket clip. Price limit is $125 (no sebenzas, please). They are not interested in: Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, SAK.

What do you recommend?

How about a SOG Vulcan or Mini Vulcan. A few more might be a 5.11 or a BladeTech Pro Hunter. I would say a ZT but it is done by Kershaw so I guess it is out. Good Luck. Kevin

CRKT Ripple..or the CRKT Eros (once its released). also, the Cold Steel Recon 1 might be a "beefier" option.

Seki Cut or Mcusta knives are very nice, especially for their price.

Though they are all one handed opening, not all of them have pocket clips.

Quality folders under $125 are likely going to come from a name that spouted out somewhat regularly. If not specifically the names you mentioned, you'll hear something like Cold Steel, Leatherman, etc. Less popular US makers that probably put out a quality folder would be something like Meyerco. Quality custom folders aren't going to generally be found under that price range. The other considerations will come from popular knife companies from outside the the US. They're just not as popular for a site that has forumites primarily from the US. Some popular makers from outside of the US are Boker, Fox Knives, Languiole, Mcusta, etc.

The KA-BAR/Dozier Folders are great, and they go for around $30.00.

I'd say that some no-name folders can be found on ebay for good prices, between that and china copies.

edit: ebay also has some brand name knives for good prices...for example, CRKT, BUCK, SOG, etc...

Lots of SOGs. A handful of Bucks. Lots of CRKTs. I guess I'd need to know more before really making a recommendation.

Fallkniven is clearing out some of their P models at 50% off. Can get a micarta handled VG10 for about $100 i believe, 3G steel with bone handles about $125, then add shipping, but subtract 25% VAT. Fallkniven folders make my coworkers drool.

i would say emerson...i have three and i bought the most expensive one on the exchange for 125...the other two i have were less than $90
