EDC fixed blade horizontal carry

I've been thinking about an EDC fixed blade for awhile now. I think I'd like to carry horizontal on my left side at about 10 o'clock. Think weapon retention as its primary role. Access with either hand is a must so reverse grip is necessary. I'd like it to be somewhat concealable so full sized fighters are a no go.

I know folks around hear eat, breath and sleep this stuff so I'm hoping someone with experience this will chime in.

A lot of the law enforcement guys I know carry the TDI but for me it's too specialized. I'd like a more traditional blade. It would be a bit awkward cutting a steak with the TDI the next time the waitress brings me a dull steak knife 😉

My MDB is a common knife for horizontal carry and have had a lot of law enforcement guys order this as their extra carry option because of the reverse grip. This knife can also be made with out the glass breaker/skull crusher.

Just got this knife in today. It may very well suit your needs.

M390 or 3V is available. I chose M390 because of its size.

^^^ Yep, the Guardian 3 is an excellent option. Also, a new option on the market is Bark River's Iron River - I have one arriving tomorrow (hopefully), and I can't wait to check it out... Should be good.

I have also horizontal-belt carried Izulas (both 1 and 2) and BRKT Neckers (both 1 and 2), both using paracord through the rivets in the kydex "neck" sheaths. Works pretty well.

Small and inexpensive, the Buck CSAR-T Liason makes the most compact, concealable horizontal rig I know of. A zip-tie through each sheath grommet makes a very secure, comfortable horizontal set up. Para-wrap the handle if you wish.

The Bradford Guardian would certainly be a good choice...or an Enzo. Any of the Esse or Becker small skeleton knives, BK-11, Izula, etc. can work well too.

Yes! The guardian3 is awesome. Cut plenty of steak in restaurants for me. Also second the Bravo Necker 2 and the Izula.

Why not get the Kydex sheathed version of the AG Russell Woodswalker? It's inexpensive, of very good quality, affords a full four-finger grip (medium-sized hands), and looks like a small kitchen knife. Granted the sheath would need some modding for belt carry.

a bit different from what's been suggested, but Ifind it perfect for horizontal carrying:

And I'm sure no steak in the world will be a hard task for those serrations...

I carry my Gerber Strongarm like that most days. About the only thing I have to be careful is that my shirt doesn't bunch around it, and I have yet to find a horizontal rig that is 100% comfortable to sit on for a long time.

I have a Guardian 3 and a BRKT Necker 2... both outstanding small FBs that will work well as horizontal carry knives for gripping with either hand unless your hands are very large. But... my favorites for that are my Doziers. Both the knives and the kydex sheaths are very well thought out, designed, and executed. Dozier's sheath can be mounted and dismounted without removing your belt, it's very secure for active people, and it rides very close to your waist so it doesn't print much even under a thin t-shirt.

I usually carry an Arkansas Traveler, but I also have a straight Personal. Getting a Personal Utility would give you a 3.25" blade (my two are 2.8"). The Bradford would be my second choice for 10:00 carry. It works very well. The leather sheath isn't as secure as kydex, but IIRC there are a couple of styles of kydex sheaths available for the G3 that will mount either a Tek-Lok or a G-Clip.

I've been carrying a Spyderco Street Beat inna Ramos Custom Leather horizontal sheath off and on. I'm not a huge fan of fixed blades when I'm not in the woods, but this combo seems to work well for me

Can you post a pic of the iron river in hand once you get it? I really like the look of those but I'm worried the handle might be a little too small to be comfortable for me.

I've been carrying the Izula and BK24 like that, and sometimes the Marttiini Timberjack in home-made kydex. Bradford Guardian 3 looks pretty good too, it's on my "to get" list.
