Hello,
I'm new to these forums, but hopefully you can help me.
I'm from Europe (place where blades are twice as expensive as in the US), and I'm a 14 year old fan of edges :). I'm searching for a extremely rugged EDC fixed blade knife that would be approximately 8" overall. I live in a country where most of the land is covered with forests, so I often go out into the woods, our weather is very wet so rust resistance would be huge advantage. Hopefully you can give me a couple suggestions on buying a new knife.
Thanks!

A stainless Mora. Rust resistant, performs well, rugged enough for any reasonable use, most likely within your price range. (Which you didn't give.) Look around, it's possible you may be able to find a local place that sells them. (Meaning no shipping charges.)

Check out the Moras first, then if you want expand, go for a Falkniven F1.

Well, we have Mora's in our,, local " (75km from my place :D), but they're just not my style, I'm a school student so my knife has to be kinda hidden, and I just can't allow myself to walk around my school with a knife hanging next to my leg... It could get a lot of unwanted attention... I was looking at something similar to the ZT 0121 (the price tag bites me everytime I look at it), ESEE Izula, Rat 3, Raidops little John and etc... The price... We'll I think I could manage to save for something up to 300$ (in a year or two...). But I don't want to waste such money on something stupid, so that's why I'm here! Thanks for the replies, but these knives are not what I'm looking for.

I would suggest taking a look at a Spyderco South Fork, a collaboration with Phil Wilson in CPM S90V.
Best..

Becker BK14/24 paid 45€ for my 14, the 24 is a bit more expensive, but you get D2 steel
Becker 15/16/17, theyre slightly larger than 8" though around 80€
DPX HEST Original paid 120€ for mine, great knife
Ontario RAT-3
ESEE 3/4

Those blades are all 1095, leave the coating on and you don't have problems with rust.
Where in Europe are you from ?

An eight inch knife is going to be kinda hard to "hide" in most pockets, I would think. And then you have the sheath length too.

Although it doesn't look too easy to conceal a Survive-Gear GSO 4.1 would be a rugged knife for you. They are the 4" outdoorsy blade du jour and looks to be a nice bargain. A Koster Bushcaft or Fallkniven F1 (first one tough and the second one rust-resistant) would also be great choices.

In your original post, you mentioned wearing it in the woods, I do not recall school being mentioned except n your next post, would the time in the woods include your school going there for trips? If not, I doubt others would think much of a sheath knife on your belt. Or maybe attach to your pack with access to it. ESEE 3 is just the right size too if carbon steel is ok, it is coated and it requires just some maintenance. I suggested Mora since you were talking about wet environments. Don't give up on Mora yet, check out all the different models. I would set my budget at about 100.00, give or take, if you want a more expensive knife. When you get some experience, then check out more expensive if you are ready or a custom knife. Many custom knives here on the exchange for great prices. Best of luck in your choice, and if possible tell us where in Europe, and describe some of your adventures.

Im swinging around a ZT 0121 (bladehq has an incredible deal on it!), Dpx hest, ESEE 3. If anyone has more suggestions, please go ahead! One guy I know works in a very small workshop where they are making hand made knives, they are called TRC Knives (go and check them out! ) so I'm thinking of ordering one custom piece from them... Elmax steel (sadly they don't work with S30V), micarta or g10 handles, very simple, but rugged knives I can say! I forgot to mention that I highly prefer kydex over leather for knife sheaths. BTW C_BECKER I'm from Lithuania (it's one of the Baltic states, you can google it!). Excuse me for any word mistakes, English isn't my main language.

Well, what I wanted to say is that I will be carrying it every day, I will go to school with it, but i would go into the woods with it aswell, it won't be my main knife when bushcrafting (I have a gerber bear grylls ultimate survival knife as my work horse). So I'm looking more of a edc knife, I spend most of my time in the city, that's the only reason that I didn't bought mora yet. Yes, I really like the look of the ESEE 3, is it really that good? Thanks!

I just picked up the Becker bk11. Its under 8" and I can wear it on my belt with no problem. You just have to wear a long enough shirt which shouldn't even be a problem. I mostly keep it in my pocket though. Sheath and all. It doesnt even print in my pocket. I chose it over the izula due to it being cheaper ($32-$50 ballpark) and having 1095 cro-van as opposed to just regular 1095.

You can wear knives to school in Europe?

Bear grylls knives are not vary good in my experience so I would get a becker bk16/17 or a esee 3/4. One of the those knives would replace your bear grylls & be easy to edc. The becker knives are vary conspicuous on your belt,so I would save my Penney's & get the esee.

For EDC I would recommend an ESEE 3 (got mine a few weeks ago and have been carrying it and it works great for my needs). The biggest thing I like about it which I didnt think I would at first was how high it rides with a clip plate compared to a drop loop. That being said I built my setup that I wanted with custom handle scales and picked up the molle back for it in case I ever wanted to carry it lower. It has been raining here a lot lately and even though its not stainless mine hasnt shown any sign of rust but I do make sure I dry it off every night if it does get wet during the day and put just a slight amount of mineral oil on the blade edge once a week. I will also say that building mine like I wanted it did cost me a little bit more than just buying one but the custom handle scales are more than worth it for me.

For a cheaper alternative that really will serve you just as well I would go for a BK14 by Becker. I owned an Izula and it was a nice knife but overall I found I liked the blade shape of the BK14 better. Then there is the fixed blade Kershaw Skyline if you are looking for a stainless steel option.

You could always look at a custom from a maker here on the forums. I see some really nice ones for sale on there every day that go for some really great prices.

OH!! Welcome to the forums!
