EDC Fixed blade knifes

You can wear knives to school in Europe?

Bear grylls knives are not vary good in my experience...
Well, I'm not sure about Europe. It depends on the rules of the school. I was ,,captured" while having a Leatherman MUT on my belt, and I had a bit of trouble, then I started carrying a CRKT M16-13SF in my pocket (hidden). To be fair you can't carry knives to school but the laws of our country don't say that, it is just the policies of the school, so that's why I want to have a ,,hidden" knife.

Thanks! Well, I think I should give the ESEE 3 a try... What scales did you buy? Have you got the Military version? Sadly I can't really buy a knife from these forums, shipping it to EU will double the price most likely... Or are there any Europian knife makers? Would love to check them out! Ok... Three knives left on my list so far, again the ZT 0121, ESEE 3, and my friends Tr12. One last question: ESEE 3Mil or the original one? Thanks again!

Go for the esee 3. I own one of those as well. Its a great knife. I used to carry it but stopped when i bought my tom krein k9. The esee 3 is the perfect size you're looking for. The only things i didnt like about it was the blade width was a little thin for my liking and the sheath sucks.

I have the regular model, not the mil. I think either one is fine. Just choose a style.

If you get the custom handle scales it covers the pomel to add some extra length to the handle so it really doesnt matter if you get the regular or mil version. I have to run home on my lunch break and I will bring mine back with me and take some pics for you of the setup I got with and without the custom scales.

the-knife-connection.com is where I got mine and they do ship overseas.

ESEE Izula. I've been carrying one as an edc for about a year now and it has served me well. I just carry it in my back pocket with no wrap or scales around the handle. With a blade just under 3", it should be legal just about anywhere. Good luck in your search.

One guy I know works in a very small workshop where they are making hand made knives, they are called TRC Knives (go and check them out! ) so I'm thinking of ordering one custom piece from them... Elmax steel (sadly they don't work with S30V), micarta or g10 handles, very simple, but rugged knives I can say! I forgot to mention that I highly prefer kydex over leather for knife sheaths. BTW C_BECKER I'm from Lithuania (it's one of the Baltic states, you can google it!). Excuse me for any word mistakes, English isn't my main language.

Wait a minute, you know Mr. Tricius and you have to ask us what knife you need ? :)
In fact I'm waiting for a custom TR-12S in RWL 34 at the moment, that knife would be a great option for you, too. And while you're there, tell him to hurry up a little :p

No need for google, I live in Europe myself (see location). Just wanted to know where you are, maybe you can save some money ordering from another EU country ?

Your english is great BTW

Was able to take an early lunch and get those pics. Up until I got the ESEE the Skyline and BK14 have seen the most use. Usually always carried the Skyline when I was out grilling and doing some fishing earlier in the year. The BK14 has seen some use around the yard and garden and a fishing trip or two last year. The 3 is gonna be my primary hunting blade this year and I will probably take it if I make any more fishing trips. With the clip plate it rides high enough on my belt that it doesnt bother me in a deer stand or in my truck (already tested it out checking out possible spots to move them around this year). I also used it to help a friend clean some fish a couple weeks ago and it handled it easily and I put it through cutting roughly 300 ears of corn this year helping dad in his garden.

I'd go with an ESEE, Becker, or a Skyline. The Skylines sheath is decent but if you prefer kydex you'll like an upgrade. The ZT 121 is not a bad knife. However, it is pretty darn heavy for the size (I cannot fathom how uncomfortable it would be in a pocket at school) and the drastic recurve is generally not liked on an outdoor knife. In the US it's both against the law and school policies (in most places I assume) and its not worth being expelled for. Whichever you chose have fun in the woods and be smart about carrying it at school.

Wow, thanks for the pictures! I think I'm passing on the ZT... Such a beauty, but I can't Afford the price tag. :(.I guess it's up to the ESEE 3 and a customized TRC TR-12S to fight for a place on my belt (5.11 tactical double duty belt). Thanks for the suggestions!!!!!!!! anyway I think I'll decide till tomorrow.

I've heard about student being expelled from school for carrying knives in USA. As far as I know in my school you only get a warning for the 1st time, 2nd they ask your parents to come to the school and so on... I'm absolutely agreed with these rules! But I'm changing schools this year so I'll see what the new rules are... Thanks!

Why not try a neck knife? There are lots of nice neck knives around. Since you need one that's rust resistant and easy to conceal, I recommend the Cold Steel Spike. They come in four blade styles and are thin, light and strong, with Tek Lok compatible sheaths. The German 4116 steel is very easy to sharpen, rust resistant, and can take a super sharp edge.

I've carried the ZT 0121 many times as an EDC and I love that knife...I was SO sure that the handle would be too short until I handled it for the first time. The ZT is a BEAST but if you can get away with carrying it I think you'll be very pleased with it.

Another super stout EDC sized fixed blade is the Strider DB. It may be only 7.5" but it gives you more useable blade than you'd think for knife that size and now they have it in PD-1 for $275. Check out the Youtube video by Monkeyedge as he beats on a 3V version of the Strider DB.

Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I have a Strider DB in CTS-XHP and it's awesome. Fits great in the hand and just feels bigger than it actually is. I'll post a picture soon. I highly recommend it.

Sorry HeartLeafKnife, but I cannot recommend any blade for a school environment. Someone who "absolutely agrees" with the rules typically does not knowingly break them. I cannot help being a school teacher...

For a deep woods environment, I do like the ESEE blades.

A Cold Steel Spike is my current neck knife, and while it's an adequate self-defense knife it would would be an awful EDC knife. It's pretty much only designed for stabbing, for any typical slicing or cutting task an EDC performs it would be utterly useless.

I second the recommendations for an Izula or similar utilitarian neck knife such as a TOPS Tibo. Much more versatile and all-around useful.

If you're looking for a quality knife with a cheaper price tag then look at some of the stuff Condor is offering.

Don't let the carbon steel scare you away, the knife isn't going to instantly rust away from getting wet. Just pick up some mineral oil at the grocery store and wipe it down every so often and it will last a life time.

Wow! Thanks for the replies, sorry for being quiet for some time. I was off to an "adventure" :D, and couldn't get access to internet for a couple weeks. I decided that I'll stay with folders for EDC. But I will definitely buy a smaller fixed blade. I don't care about rust anymore, cause I noticed that half of my knives aren't rust resistant, and they hold up quite well.

Good!

As You say You mainly carry Your knife in school and the city, You need no more than a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife in the pocket.
For the woods a more robust fixed beltknife will be useful.

At 14, I carried a Solingen Bowie knife in the woods and a penfolder at school.
The law back then said no knives at school, but otherwise no limits, except switchblades and daggers.
So it happened that I carried the Bowie also in town.
Totally illegal here nowadays.

If I go into town I take no more than a SAK, unless I go there in my work as a carpenter.
Yes, I'm allowed to carry a fixed beltknife as a tool, when working!

"Tool" is the keyword here and I'm very careful to preserve this attitude towards knives in my everyday life.
That's a good way to avoid trouble.

Regards
Mikael

The only fixed blade I know of that is specifically designed for EDC is the Bark River City Knife. It's in 154CM, I've been meaning to pick one up for a while.
