EDC fixed blade???

I've found that what makes or breaks a FB for daily carry in my case is the sheath, even more than the knife. It has to be comfortable to carry standing or sitting, working or doing nothing. I think a lot of manufacturers don't give enough thought to their sheaths. Comfort, concealability, accessibility, and securely retaining the knife all have to come together. A simple sheath like the Izula and BK14 have can be user modified to carry the knife in a lot of different positions & locations. That's important. In most cases, I think you just have to try a few different carry locations, knife lengths, etc. to see what works for you.

I carry a small FB 5 or 6 days a week. I stick with knives that are around 7" OAL with a 2.75"- 3" blade length. Most of mine are horizontal carry. The BRKT Essentials are in an angled cross-draw sheath. My favorites are a couple of Doziers (Arkansas Traveler and Straight Personal), Bradford's Guardian 3, and BRKT's Essential. All have well-designed carry systems that are comfortable and easy to reach. I like to carry FBs in cross-draw so I can reach them with either hand. These all work well at about 10:00.

Whereabouts in southwestern VA? ... if I read that right...

Sweet. We're from Princeton, WV. Used to spend a good bit of time between Bluefield and Roanoke, esp around Blacksburg. Did a lot of eatin' at Angelo's Pizza in Blacksburg and then spent a lot of $ at Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke.

When your Izula comes... here's what I did with my Izula and my BK14 sheaths. I got a bicycle inner tube from WalMart for $15. I measured the two sheaths to determine the distance between the holes for the Tech-Locks, and then cut inner tube pieces just small enough to clear the holes. I slipped the sheaths through them and now I have a very snug "belt loop" for close horizontal carry on both of those sheaths. With a 1" or more belt like a duty belt, they stay put when I draw the knives.

It's not my original idea, but I liked it when I saw it and it's worked well for me. And I also second the aftermarket scales from TKC. I have a set on both my Izula and my BK14. They are much better feeling than the original scales from either company.

I carry a Bradford Guardian3 often, mainly when I don't have good pockets to stick folders in (so in the summer when I wear basketball shorts instead of tac pants), it's a bit on the high end for necker-sized knives, but it's does everything I need and more with little effort.
