I'm looking to buy a custom fixed blade knife for EDC. 4" would be my ideal blade length, but I could go down to 3.5" or 3.75".

Three makers I'm looking at are Bob Dozier with his Agent (his website says he can make the blade longer if I want, as it's a bit too short by default), Bodyguard and Model 6 knives, Greg Lightfoot with his C4 Spearpoint, and David Mosier with his Rezolver, Deceptor, Model 12 and Servicon.

I really like the blade shape of Lightfoot's C4, but it's a bit too short for me I think at only 3.25". Do you think Greg might be able to make a longer one for me without adding too much to the price?

Dozier's seem to be in very high demand and his designs are nice, but he uses D2 steel and I'd prefer something like CPMS30V, CPM154CM or BG42 if possible. I've also heard that his knives are not sharpened very well and can chip or snap relatively easily. He also has the longest waiting list I think. He is the cheapest of them, however.

Mosier has lots of nice looking knives in my size range, and he falls between Dozier and Lightfoot in terms of price. Don't like his handles though, but I'll just order something different - maybe green micarta with mosaic pins, or gouged, Busse style silver twill G10.

So:

Any other makes I should look at? Hopefully you'll have discerned the style that appeals to me from what I've looked at already, and my taste so far as size/steel/handle materials go.

Any thoughts of what might be the best choice from the above? This is going to be an EDC knife, so it will need to handle daily tasks, and maybe a little bit of kitchen use, and self-defence as a secondary concern. Concealment isn't an issue and I'm not too bothered about weight.

Greatly appreciate any help you can give :)

The best thing to do would be to contact Greg and ask him. I have experience with his knives and really like them.

Man, did you ever hear wrong.

I bought the Servicon from David last year... I'very happy with it !!
Blade shape is really for an EDC and a user knife, razor sharp. I would suggest to give his contoured handle a chance... it fits confortable in your hand and, IMO, is nice looking, too.

also , don't forget to check out the for sale by knifemaker area here , there are many who are providing excellent bang for the buck knives !

Was great talking with you at SHOT , see you again at SHOT in 2010 Mike ?

I am no where even close to the same league as the names mentioned in this thread , but thanks for the comments Mike.

Another maker to check for a great user is John Landi here on Bladeforums.
