EDC Flashlight, Also for Camping/Campus

When I'm camping I have a Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp rated at 38 lumens. It's great but a hand light is always a necessary companion. I've decided on the Novatac 120T. It's got all the features I want and I love the design/interface. It's too bad TAD Gear only had black units as I want the drab one. I'll have to order it online.

Tha looks like a good unit ! The 2 mode would be useful too - as too much power all the time can be a pain. There are dropins which also do similar things. How do you switch between power modes?

You switch modes by turning the bezel on the flashlight.

Settled on the Novatac EDC 120T. Tried one out at TAD Gear and the programming was intuitive and exactly what I need: High, Med, Low, Strobe. I also love the build quality and form factor...Plus I can't wait to bead blast the clip and bezel!!!

Ease of use is a huge factor to me. I want something that is drop dead reliable but never a hassle to adjust. Multiple modes is a plus. High for blinding light when needed and Low for battery conservation and remedial tasks. Tactical strobe is a bonus!!! Trying to stay to one CR123.

The perfect light for you is the Jetbeam Jet II IBS. It's got regulated output, three customizeable outputs, strobe/SOS, uses one CR123, and best of all can be focussed for long throw or wide area light. Output can be set from about 5 lumens up to 220 lumens.

The downside is that this light is no longer made. I liked mine so much I bought an extra one from Bugout Gear (http://store.bugoutgearusa.com/jetiiibs.html), just to have a backup. They should have a few in stock still, if you hurry. Price from them was ~ $80 with shipping.

I think you made an excellent choice.

I bought a Surefire L1 almost a year ago and I've been very happy with it. Sure there are things I'd change, but it's been an outstanding light.

I bought it because I was sick of waiting for the Arc6, I couldn't find a Novatac to play with (and I had some doubts about their warranty down the road), the Ra Twisty didn't have a pocket clip and I wasn't sure I wanted just a twisty, and nobody had the E1b in stock.

If I were buying a light today though, since Surefire has gone up somewhat significantly in prices, knowing what I know now I would not hesitate for a moment to buy a Novatac.

I loved the overall fit and finish and everyone at TAD gear had one...good sign...They know their stuff and they stock Surefire, Novatac, and Nitecore.

Just got it in.

Although I've heard that Botach has been an iffy dealer in the past, I got my new Novatac EDC 120T promptly for a great deal, $100. It also included the new style slim clip, which is much appreciated.

Immediate impressions: This is exactly what I needed. The interface, functions, and form factor are all perfect. The clip rides high, which I don't like much, but if I use it, It'll be clipped to a backpack strap or vest, so the height won't matter.

Good job Novatac!

I have a SureFire E2D-LED Defender and it's a very useful and enjoyable flashlight. The ability to use it in a self defense situation is great, and all the pointiness adds to it a cool factor that isn't as obvious on the regular E-series.

I also have an E1L that is an excellent, incredibly compact light.

SureFire is excellent, Novatac is first-rate too. You can't go wrong with either.

I would put my recommendation on Fenix, I have a TK10 and Im planing on picking up a PD30 and Ld01. The pd30 and TK10 are pretty similar, a difference of 5 lumens on high output.
TK10: 225 lumens for 1.5 Hours, and 60 lumens for 10 hours
PD30: 220 lumens for 1.5 hours, 117 for 4 hours, 70 lumens for 8 hours and 9 lumens for 65 hours.
These both run on two cr123a's, also the pd30 is on special here in canada and comes with 10 1300 mAh batteries.

Ld01: 80 lumens for one hour, 27 lumens for 3.5 hours, and 10 lumens for 8.5 hours
This is pretty amazing considering it runs on one AAA battery.
Some people don't like fenix because they are china made, but they are extremely high quality and give Surefire a run for the money and more, plus they are a hell of a lot cheaper than surefire which gives you the chance to buy a couple and store them.

The only light surefire has comparable to the TK10 is the the m3 combat light, which is bigger has an incandesent bulb, only has a run time of 20 minutes on 225 and has a price tag of $269 , where as a TK10 from canada will run you $85 dollars and comes with 10 batteries, has a Q5 led bulb, and built just as tuff.

I don't mean to disparage the Fenix lights at all. I own several and think they're a very good purchase. Compared to the RA Twisty, the Fenix has the advantage of being less than half as expensive and physically smaller in size in the 1xCR123 configuration (although some of the Fenix single cell lights are almost too small for primary duty). The OP, however, has specifically asked for something that's easy to adjust, has multiple useable light levels and is "drop dead reliable". All those requirements fall right in the RA Twisty's sweet spot.

How does the Fenix P3D fail on those requirements? It has 6 output types adjustable by turning the bezel and using the tail switch. And it hasn't failed me yet.
