EDC flashlight

I've started carrying a CRKT F1000 that I bought online for around $20. I know, CRKT isn't a brand associated with flashlights, but this one can be set between low/medium/high/strobe or high-only mode, which is relevant to me since I like to conserve battery life whenever possible and don't usually need my lumens in the triple digits at work. More important to me is that it has a deep-carry pocket clip so the bezel rides flush with the top of my back pocket, which I've found infinitely more convenient than something that is all the way in my pocket and requires either digging around for it or using a lanyard.

Ya I lost the exact same flashlight about 2 years ago! I have owned quite a few Fenix lights and they've always worked great....real similar to 4sevens.

An Olight s10 is what you want. One battery, small and very bright. Has a clip and lanyard to use as needed. $30-40.

I have both a AAA maratac and a zebralight headlamp. I edc the maratac as its more than bright enough and weighs almost nothing. However when I'm doing work around the house I'll use the zebralight as the clip and right angle of the led allow me to clip it to my shirt, belt or a a necklace for hands free light

Another vote for Maratac AAA. I have the Copper Extreme. Very bright, small and can clip to your hat. It also has a very effective diffuser. Last time I checked(yesterday), a stainless steel(not aluminum was available.

I agree Fenix has some great feedback. I'm about to overhaul my light setups and order a few. My super bright tactical/hiking trip/SHTF light is going to be the Fenix PD35 2015 Tactical. 1000 lumens turbo mode and 1000 lumens strobe mode, with additional 500/200/60/8 lumen modes as well. I'm going to also get a Fenix PD22 for main EDC which is 200 lumens, and on top of that I'm going to order 3 or 4 Fenix E12's which are 130 lumen single AA $27 lights to put in my house/car/backpacks as backup lights. Mind you even 130 lumens is pretty bright, something like 500 or 1000 is just a whole 'nother level of insane. My main EDC light right now is 120 lumens.

Probably going to throw a sure fire g2x in there too eventually which is something like 300 lumens I think. I like having a flashlight in each room and both cars + both trunk bags + my emergency gear packs inside. Right now I just have run of the mill 80-120 led lights that aren't of great quality. That is why I'm upgrading soon.

I really like Fenix for their craftsmanship and efficiency.

Right now I'm I've been trying to streamline all my lights to run AA or AAA eneloops, that way in the event of an actual emergency I suppose I'd have no problems having several working lights on hand and the ability to easily locate more.

With that said, for a small light I like the LD02 which runs on 1 AAA. It's slight bigger brother the LD09 is a bit brighter and is powered by 1 AA.

For a slightly longer general purpose light the E25 is good and emits a Max of 260 lumens on 2 AA.

For a somewhat pocketable search/flood light there's the much under appreciated E41. 1000 lumen max, 4 modes and probably the broadest beam in it's class, all from 4 AA that drop right in.

I just got a couple new lights.

One is a stream light stylus pro. Runs on 2 AAA batteries. It only has 1 setting of 65 lumens and it has a 6.5 hour run time! Very useful brightness and great construction. Plus, for around 20 bucks it's hard to beat.

I also got a Foursevens mini M2A. It has 3 brightness settings: 3 lumens (which it turns out is great!), 40-ish lumens and then 200 lumens. Runs off of 2 AAs.

I'd highly recommend either!

If you're deciding between Maratac and Zebralight, you're doing yourself a huge disservice not getting the Zebralight.

At 85 lumens, it's probably not what you're after. Though it's plenty of light for my everyday needs, and it's very pocket able, not to mention good looking.

but if I were looking for dependable and cheap, I'd look at fenix. Though they use very cool lights that irritate my vision.

Within your budget I'd look at the Olight S1 or Surefire Titan. The Olight is as small as the Mini but with 500 lumens and I've found them to be as reliable as 4Sevens. The Surefire Titan had some initial release problems but they've been corrected now. AAA battery, 125 lumens for about 40 minutes and a rechargeable battery for around $59. The new Titan Plus is also out for about $90. 300 lumens initially but drops down after that. I can't test the lumen decline myself but it hasn't been noticeable for the short times I use the light. It also runs on a rechargeable AAA.
